When we Camp we go out of our way to make sure it s a campground that has private lots.  Otherwise we just don t go........ Sometimes we get stuck with a poor site but that s about it...

Some sites... Like the deluxe water sites ... although they have tree s between them you can still see through.. Something about camping and looking out your camper window and seeing some guy half naked doesn t appeal to me..... (usually the girls don t do that - bummer)...

What we do in a pinch...
   Position Camper right... iF possible
   Use the Car
Thinking about haning a Dark blanket...

 For Noise...
A Fan ... with soft music playing by my head...

 Anyone else?

Joe GleasonFor noise we usually use a fan - although it hasn t been a serious problem in the past.  But for privacy we usually will only unzip the tinted windows halfway down.  That way we can see fine standing up (and our view is also blocked) and have that extra privacy we want.  Also stringing up the clothes line and throwing up some towels works good.  Did you see the new screen house that Palamino came up with in the new PU Times mag?  Like a silk-screen lake/woods scene.  Very nice and definalty works for privacy!!

Joe GleasonThe AAR I have is in 3 pieces.  I can hang just the end piece(s) to keep our area a little more private.

Camperroo

tlhdocI usually would leave the windows only partially zipped down for privacy or in the AAR just put the privacy shade down on the side I didn t want to be looking at!  That s the beauty of a popup, there have been many, many times, we have backed her in only to mover her by hand to get in the just oh so right position!!  As for noise, the AC turned on low or fan works great!

Joe GleasonWhat this all sounds like to me is that you need to go camping in primative fashion. [;)] I do like camping at campgrounds and meeting new people. But do agree that I need so more privacy than a lot of these campgrounds offer.[;)]  It all comes down to $$$$$. I believe we need to voice our opinion to the owner/state. Some of these camp grounds pack them in.

Joe GleasonGetting a private site is usually easier than guaranteeing a quiet site.     It seems to me that they both kindof go hand in hand.  If you are in a campsite / campground that has big natural sites, then the problem is not nearly as bad as a campground with small sites right next to each other.

Joe GleasonWe always try to get a site that s on the lakeside, and on the edge of a loop, so we don t have anyone camping on the entry way side.  We leave the flaps up on the window on the other side so folks cann t see in, cept for the ones that face the lake.  Guess we ve been lucky so far that we ve haven t felt we were lacking in privacy yet.

Gamecock Camper

Joe GleasonIf you have really really have to block noise out, just turn up the boombox (LOL).

Joe Gleason

Joe GleasonI am with you ... Bushed Private Lots is really the only way we like to go... It s just every now and then you show up and you get what your delt with ... Nut as much bush - and sometimes some noisy neighbors...

I cringe when I see those Parking lot style deals... and would much rather hike my own water in before setting up there!

I did find a usefull tool for reviewing a campsite... Gooogle discussion group check!   If a site isn t mentioned on PUT board - try there!

Going to check out St. Joe on the Pan Handle in florida... Looks like it s way out - and well wooded.. reviews came back positive... Saying the Motor home section and the sites with electric where parking lot style while the primitive where really secluded! Looking forward to it!

Camper Dan

 Joe GleasonHi all[:)],

I have been using ear plugs for years, while camping.  Wouldn t leave home without them.  They ve saved the day(night) many a trip!  We also take a sound machine along (originally to mask my snoring [;)]).  Sometimes we ve had to use both at the same time.[:(]

We bought the sound machine at the Sharper Image.  It has 10 different sounds.  We can listen to crickets or tree frogs or whip-poor-wills, etc. for a week before we camp...to get us used to the woodland sounds.  Now, if the campsite is quiet and we don t need to use the machine, we are already acclimated to the woodland sounds...or...we can listen to the woodland sounds from the machine...instead of the rock concert from three campsites over.[:D]

As far as music for sleeping goes...Mozart...I can sleep to Mozart.[:)]...can t explain it...so don t ask.  Though, I reall enjoy it while I am awake, [;)]too!

Joe Gleason

Joe GleasonGood Idea on the sound machine...

I think I ll grab a couple Natural sounds... and Burn my own CD of Crickets and such... I am sure I have bought more then my share of " nature music"  only to be disapointed that one, maybe two songs are " Tollerable" ... Now that you can mix and match.. that may be good - allong with some nice Mozart and of course my favorite " willie" ...   By 12:00 all seems to go quite, so you can turn off the fans, and radio and just enjoy...
