We are looking for a used pop up.  We are tired of tenting it.  Anyway, we found a used Viking in good condition a 1996 for $2000.  I know the price is good, but how will it hold up?  I am looking for advice on this purchase.  Will it fall apart, Will I have alot of problems with it?

hillsparadiseDid you buy it ? Inquiring minds want to know ........

Gamecock Camper

hillsparadiseOk, just give it a good inspection from top to bottom.  Run the stove, run the heater, run the AC, run the 3 way refrigerator on all three power sources, check all the plugs, check the sink and drain, check the roof lift system by going through the set-up and take down routine, set-up and take down the awning, inspect underneath the camper for frame damage..... If you don t feel comfortable doing that, talk to a handyman type friend....even better, talk to a handyman friend who owns a pop-up camper.... or get a dealer to inspect the camper and give you the lowdown on what needs to be maintained or fixed to have a fully functioning camper.  Remember that you will not have a warranty on a used camper, but a 1996 model that has been taken care of should have all the original equipment and plenty of years left in it for camping.  Ask if the bearings have been re-greased, if the tires have been replaced and ask if how new the battery is.......

Lots of pop-up campers are still out there doing their job that are much much older than this one.  If it fits your needs and passes the inspection(s), then go to www.nadaguides.com and look-up this camper (with all the options it has) and determine the approximate value.  It should be a good time to negotiate a good price (most people only camp between May and September).... so check it out.  If it isn t right, keep looking as there are plenty of good used pop-up campers out there.  If you are patient, you will find the right one at the right price.
