Has anyone made an extension for a counter inside the camper?  I m thinking about something like a flip-up shelf on a cabinet that would provide a little extra working space but could then be flipped down or taken off when not needed.

 Any ideas?

wssfetchI don t know what the inside of the Jayco looks like, but wouldn t it cover up any drawers that you may have? Unless you had it on the side.

wssfetchNot sure about a counter extension, but my buddy built a cover for the sink on the old camper. It was 1x3 s w/malamine on the top...probably 20x24"  in size - just removed it when we had to use the sink. Just a thought......

wssfetchA flip-up extensoin would work.  Just use two hinges or one piano hinge and a locking brace.  I think if you go to the manufacturer sites that one brand actually had something like this.  It might be Viking.

wssfetchcampering world has what your looking for 35.00

or go to www.campingworld.com  interior,, kitchen,  spacesaver.

Gamecock Camper

wssfetchThat would be so easy to build though.  Just a 12"  wide board with hinges and a drop leaf table type bracket.  You could build this for much less than $35.00.

 wssfetchHi-
We had a U shaped cushioned area and I used the side that was an extention of the sink cabinet to add a pre made 24 inch by 48 inch piece of melamine counter.
The space was almost exactly 48 inches so all I had to do was take off the cushions and make a support/spacer on the side to the right of the sink that was sized to make the add-on shelf the same height as the counter.  The shelf rested on the support, the edge of track for the pull-out bed and the shelf formed by the
pull out bed when it was extended.  It worked very well, required no major construction and could be assembled and disassembled very quickly.  The shelf was supported completely on 3 sides and made a great area for food preparation.
The room under the shelf was great for storing bulky clothing items.
When it came time to break down the camper, we just put the shelf on top of bench area (actually a cabinet that housed the water pump, water tank and the 30 amp cord), put the support down and put the cushions on top of it.
We picked up 8 square feet of counter top and at a total cost of less than $10.00
Any questions-feel free to email me.

wssfetchThanks everyone for the suggestions.  Checked out member s sites from her, PUX and IRV2 and saw several folks who had the same basic idea--piano hinge and some sort of support like for a drop leaf table.  What I think would really be cool would be a worksurface that pulls out from the galley like a drawer and that you could push back in when you re done.  Maybe just something that is cuttin board size.
