4campinfoxesThis is a reply to an old message, but we do the same thing in camp for our pooch that we do at home in our townhouse back yard. We have several sizes of the heavy duty vinyl coated cables, from 10 - 25 feet and a duplicate 10 (may even want a 5 ft) foot cables. We find an area in the campsite where our pooch could wander around with no place to tangle (trees, tables, etc) or as limited as possible. Then with heavy duty tent stakes, stretch out the longest cable we can and stake down to the ground BOTH ends through the clippy part... this will make a long tight cable on the ground.  We then attach another cable (again as long as possible..whatever works) to the dogs collar or harness and to the cable on the ground.  Works just like the tree version..but we don t have it attached to any trees! We just use the cable lengths that work for the spot we happen to be in.

Hope this isn t too confusing! [;)]
