Turn Key

Well, I wanted to go camping for a couple of days starting tomorow but it s suppose to start raining after today and keep it up through Saturday.  Sooo, since it s sunny today with a high forcasted in the mid-60s I got the tiller out and made the first two passes in the garden.  Could have done the last pass but decided to wait until just before I m ready to plant.  Texas  hot summer can be a pain but boy I sure love being able to think about gardening this soon.  I ve already ordered and received my seed.  I can taste those tomatos already[8D][8D][8D]!

PS: Just looked at some of the other posts here.  Really sorry if I made anybody feel bad about winter.  It was not my intention.  I wish " Spring"  to all.

Turn KeyI grew up in a gardening family.  My folks always had a vegatable garden and my mother was good at making anything bloom.

But I m just too lazy.  That and the fact that in my town, you have to break the law to water your garden (or lawn)...and we always have a drought in August.

Turn KeyWe have a new house with a TON of room for gardens, both flowering and vegetative. I can t wait to get tilling and planting. I ve already been ordering a few things and have some basic designs layed out (habit from landscape architecture classes way back in college).

But it will all have to wait until the new kitchen is done. So much to do...

Turn KeyYeah Austin, that s why everyone runs thier sprinklers from 1am- 3am!! [:D]
I love to garden, but around here we ll be waiting until April to start!  We won t have a problem with water anymore - new well last Fall!  Before we had a hand-dug well [: (] Around August we usually had to start doing laundry at Mom s house and take one five minute shower a day!

Turn KeyI would be ready, but I can t remember where the garden is![;)]
The last I saw it, it was about twenty feet from the camper and under 6 inches of snow.
Oh well, just keep thinking...only 2 more months til the first trip.[8D]

Turn KeyBack in my teenage years, I had some friends that had a " garden"  that they kept year round.  Bout closet size (cause that s where it was).  Wasn t me..just some friends.  [:)]

Turn KeyI use to garden, flower and vegetable. Would spend countless hours tilling, hoeing, weeding and watering. My gardens would be so beautiful. But now...

I would rather spend half my summer at the lake! And since I do that my gardens burn up. So no gardens for me anymore.

Turn KeyThis is a great topic about one of my passions. By the end of next month I should have sugarsnap peas, radishes and spinach planted. I get all gung ho with the garden in the spring but when the dog days of summer come I barely like to go outside in the hot sun. The drought was awful last summer. Im hoping and praying that this will not happen this year.

" Dee" : Put some daf bulbs in last fall.  The re up about 2"  as of this morning.  " Lablover"  talks about the dog days of summer.  Living in Texas, I can sure talk about that subject.  Spring is early and great here but summer will about kill you.

Turn KeyWe re going to " remodel"  a hillside garden in our backyard over the next couple of weekends.  Taking out the stuff that s there now and putting in some tiered levels for slate platforms for decorative pots and interesting groundcovers.

Turn KeyWe will begin our seed-starting of tomatoes & other seeds within a couple of weeks.  We have some strawberries, rhubarb, blackberries, & few herbs in our garden plot in our community garden which are year- round varities.  I run an organic community garden on our church s property.  There is nothing like eating fresh produce right out of the garden!  And, the nutritional value is far superior than anything store-bought.

Winter is much easier to endure when you re not skiing if you are into gardening.  The colorful catalogs start coming in the mail around the holidays.  It makes it easy to dream of warm sunshine & the wonderful aroma of the garden.

 Peace be with you all.
