 Folks,

This is a nice park with beaches and the works. If your in the neighborhood check it out. www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/ This state park also takes pets.

whitestar505A family we camped next to at Gambrill SP highly recommended going there.  Hopefully we  ll get there this summer.

whippetwrunWas there last year and I agree. I can even take the dogs. I had site 13.

whippetwrun

whitestar505We had site 12 on July 26-28, 2002.  Just ran to look it up!

Any suggestions as to good sites allowing dogs at Elk Neck?

whippetwrunIf you have dogs there is only one loop that has all the hook-ups. That is the Northeast loop. It is open, and I would suggest site 16. They are all close to the road but little traffic. Site 16, If I recall correctly is a loop/drive throu.

I have to say, Elk Neck is one of the best state parks I have stayed in. I first went there in 1978. Back then, there were no paved roads, no hot showers and lots of mud. The paved road ended way back where you make the turn by the church with the outside seating. My children grew up knowning and befreinding one ranger. Now, my kids are grown, that Ranger has retired and Elk Neck is a gem. We always stay in the Chester loop. It only has electric. The North East has full hook-ups. Site 17 is tops for a pop-up. I won't tell you the good site in the Chester, otherwise, it won't be availble for us! LOL. We stay there about 12 -15 times a year. The hike to the light house is great! Camp store is open from early spring until late fall.

I agree that it is a nice park, but the sites are a little to close for me (at least in the North East loop).  It is also on the expensive side for me.  We camped there in November of 2005.:)
