My DH and I are planning a weekend to hike the Pinnacle (8.9 miles) and stay at a campground close to the Pinnacle.  This will be the first time we camp without the kids so we would like a quiet campground.  My book " Hike America Pennsylvania"  mentions the Blue Rocks campground, is anyone familiar with this campsite?  Any information I really would appreciate.

spiritWe camped here last summer.  The following is my review from the old PopUpTimes message board:

Blue Rocks campground in Lenhartsville, PA: http://www.bluerockscampground.com/

Campground set up: Basically on the side of a mountain. The entrance, bath-house, playground, pool, camp store/office, game room and dump station were at the bottom of the hill. The sites were all up hill from there. Roads were very bumpy and NO ONE could go over the posted 5 mph -- which was nice. There were lots of people with golf carts driving around, but not too annoying. People were all friendly. If you want very nice/rustic primitive sites, they have some, but you need a 4x4 to get to some of them. They also have their very own " boulder field"  in the middle of the campground which is a site to see during the day and at night when the moon shines on the rocks and gives them a blue tint. There have been bear sightings in the area, my husband saw a deer and I would have too if I had my glasses on. Small critters (raccoons, skunks, cats... ) were everywhere since we were in the woods.

The Area: Appalachian trail goes right through the campground -- which was kinda cool. Crystal cave is 8 miles away. Dorney park and Crayola Factory are about 1/2 hour away.

Sites: Primitive sites cost $22/night. W/E sites cost $27/night. Mostly primitive sites, some full hookup (most of which are seasonal and in the sun) and some w/e sites. Our w/e site was level, but on the small side. Still enough room for a small picnic table and large fire ring with grill.

Bathrooms: Only ONE bath-house for the entire campground and that was near the entrance, so most sites would have to drive to it. They have another bath house marked on their map on the website, but that doesn t exist. The one bath house was very basic and old. They did have soap and paper towels. The showers were old, cost .25, but they functioned well. Everything was relatively clean -- I ve seen much worse. We were grateful we had our CP.

Playground: Basic (swings, see-saws, etc...) in sand.

Pool: small, clean, some grass around it, but no chairs provided. No " life"  guard, but there was a " pool"  guard there to make sure no one had too much fun. There seemed to be too many rules.

Activities: They have scheduled activities every weekend, but we did not partake.
