I have off the same week as my kids for spring break, March 22. I can not make up my mind as to were to go. I was thinking maybe Panama City or someplace in Texas such as San Antonio,Corpus Christy or maybe Big Bend. I  ve never been to Texas or Florida. Not sure if the wife can get off so I do not want to spend a lot of money. Would not mind a place with a pool. Boys are 14,12 and 10. Does anybody have any ideal s. Last year we went to Harper s Ferry and had a great time.
  Thanks,
  John

hbfc6John - where is your starting point?  That may help us throw out some suggestions.

 hbfc6We live in Northwest Indiana.

hbfc6Starting from Northwest Indiana I would think the Florida Keys are out of the question.

The Panama City area is beautiful.  [link=http://www.dep.state.fl.us/parks/district1/standrews/index.asp]St. Andrews State Park[/link] always gets rave reviews.

If history lessons may be on the agenda, how about the old south.  [link=http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com/stateparks/Parkdetail.Asp?Pid=1019]Hunting Island State Park, SC[/link] is located 85 miles south of Charleston, but just outside of historic [link=http://beaufort-sc.com]Beaufort, SC[/link]  Home of the United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Paris Island.  Lots of things to do in this area and the campground is right on the beach.  No pool, but a great campground.

hbfc6You may want to check on some of the ocean destinations as far as how many college students will be there at that time. As far as Austin/San Antonio area I might be able to help some. San Antonio has a Sea world I don t know a whole lot about this area yet (lived here less then a year) but there are some GREAT state parks for camping.

If you do decide to head for the coast there isn t alot of great camping by corpus, there s a state park that is basically a parking lot with picnic shelters. Or you can camp in a parking lot on the beach if you want primitive. But the beach is really nice. I do know of a few private campgrounds, but I haven t checked them out yet.  The TX department of tourism puts out a really nice guide book that gives the higlights of each town. It s a good place to start.

hbfc6We are heading for Amelia Island in Florida for a week. The State park there is Fort Clinch State park. They have ocean and river sites. We will be coming from Illinois, so it s a pretty long drive. We ll leave Friday night and drive maybe 5 hours and stay at a hotel then split the rest of the trip over Saturday and Sunday. Here is a web site with a lot of info for you to check.

hbfc6I went to Florida for spring break  93. Stayed in Orlando and partied in Daytona Beach. I wouldn t go near Daytona camping. Too many college kids, crowds, and problems. I ve heard the same about Panama City.
Of course, I m in Wisconsin, so maybe I don t know what I m talking about...[;)]

hbfc6I, of course, would recommend Myrtle Beach, SC.  There is LOTS to do for the kids.  Know of at least four huge CG s that have indoor pools.  Do not know how close it is to the state park previously mentioned, but I think it is close.

There is a state park CG (does not have pool), plus Myrtle Beach Travel Park www.myrtlebeachtravelpark.com , Ocean Lakes www.oceanlakes.com , Pirateland CG www.pirateland.com , Lakewood Camping Resort www.lakewoodcampground.com .

All of these CG s are on the ocean, have indoor pools, bath houses, laundromats,  playgrounds.  Some have putt putt courses, lazy rivers, discounted tickets to shows, and discounted golf tee times, paddle boats, small restaurants, etc.   These are more commercial type CG s instead of natural or state parks.

Well that is my two cents worth.  Hope it gives you an idea.[:)]
