The old message board at http://www.popuptimes.com/forum
will be removed on 3/5/03.  So, if you have info you want off the old board,
 better get it quick.

AdminSo we are about to forever lose thousands of campground reviews and maintenance information?

 Board - Topics - Posts:

It s not my call, but I really feel that losing all that information would be a tragic mistake.

 AdminSteve,
Is there anything we can do or that can be done to keep all of that valuable information?  Just last night I posted a link to the old board regarding awning pole weights.  There is some extremely helpful topics over there and it would be terrible if all of that was gone forever.  The old board was when we had incredible amounts of traffic and with it incredible amounts of different ideas and opinions.

Simply put; What would it take to keep the old message board alive?

If nothing else, how can we save the " Mr. Fix It"  area?  That s basically where I found all of my mod s., storage ideas, and PU products, as well as where I decided not to attempt others.

AdminI just spoke with Dave and he is going to talk with Steve today.

The problem is with the ISP, we currently need to run 2 databases (one for the new ASP Playground Forum, and on for the old Snitz forum.  The ISP only allows one.

As has been posted earlier, ASP Playground Forums has basis scripts to convert Snits data, but we are not sure it will work completely or effectivly.

We understand the concern and will do everything possible to make the information available.  We agree it is a valuable resource.

 AdminMarcy,

Give us a couple of days before we start wholesale copying of the old forums into the new ones.

I did say "  If the old forums cannot be saved,"  and was not suggesting we start wholesale copying right away. Merely suggesting an alternative if nothing can be saved.

AdminProblem is, no matter what I remember to collect right now, there s gunna be a bunch of stuff I ll forget and wish I d searched for later on.

Losing the archives would be a waste of a LOT of vaulable info. Here s hoping they can be saved...

AdminDUH, especially after just having a thread that spoke volumes about how much benefit there is to keep the  old board  easily accessible.   I realize that the thread itself got out of hand, but the concepts that were debated (?haha?)  were important to many of us, and valuable.  I think (MHO) that it would be a great loss to all of us, and especially to newer members if they were to end up getting lost.  glad to hear that measures are being at least discussed to try to save them.

got woody?

AdminNaieve question here, but Is there anything we can do to help?

If it was a matter of volume, perhaps some of us could spend a little time wading through to help identify/catalog/condense stuff?  Probably futile, I know.

I d be happy to offer a few hours over the coming week if it could possibly be of any help.  I too refer back to the old board, esp Campground reviews.

 Just thinking out loud,

AdminHow large is the old database? I might be able to host it for you on my site if your ISP only allows 1 database. I would hate to see it go away. I still use it to look up stuff.

AdminI, too, would hate to lose the information from the old board. I find myself searching the old board frequently instead of re-posting here.
Can the info be saved in some sort of searchable text file, and made available for purchase at a nominal cost on CD?

Ditto for me, sure2rain!  Your CD idea is really intriguing if it could be made to work.  but whatever form it takes, I hope we will not lose all this good stuff.  Just the recipes alone are worth saving.   For example,   Marin must have posted hundreds of good ones which  sounded excellent  for camping--quick and easy to fix AND   delicious...And I was hoping next year to take advantage of more travel and camping and using the detailed camp ground reviews for this.  I certainly dont have the ability or the time to copy all this stuff in the next few days.

AdminThe old database is currently 235MB of MS SQL information.
It costs quite a bit to keep it around.

Pop UP Times is committed to making sure the information stays available.
We are researching the best available method to do so that will not cost a
fortune or be so inconvenient it is unusable.

I will go offline on Wednesday, but will return ASAP in some usable form.
We will attempt to get it back within 2 weeks.

AdminWell, I m not a " real"  member yet -- I m on a 10 day trial, and for the most part have only been lurking -- so perhaps my opinion is not applicable, but I felt compelled to reply anyway.

For someone like myself (very experienced tent camper, but not so experienced popup camper) one of the most important aspects of any forum is past history. I m more inclined to search the archives then post a question that has already been asked. I also find it an invaluable research tool that allows me to explore at my own leisure (I don t own a popup just yet, so every tidbit I can aquire is helpful). Judging by the activity I have seen thus far popuptimes most likely has an irreplaceable[/I] wealth of information which, if no longer available, would significantly diminish the value of this forum (not to mention all the time and effort of those who ve contributed the information). I would find it a great loss if all of that were no longer accessible. [:(]
