If they are sharp enough to damage the bottom of the mattress.
Wouldn t they also be sharp enough to damage your tenting if you leave them on top? (When your tucking in or pushing the beds in.)

Given the choice I d rather have damage on the bottom of the mattress than the tenting.

WayfarerI stow my shepherds poles on top of the folded down dinette, it s not going to have anything putting pressure on it there, and has not caused any damage so far. I don t like putting anything under the mattress, that thing is uncomfortable enough on it s own, I don t need anything that could make it grow some lumps under it sometime down the road!

WayfarerI think Coleman suggests under the mattress because, if you put them on top and then your 10 year old pushes the bedend in with some jerking, the pole can slide around and slide off the bed and get bent, while halting the process...

NOT that we have any experience with this with our first camper....[:D][:)]

The Sedona s beds always gave us a little resistance when going in. The Utah hasn t been a problem, at all. We stow the poles under the mattresses still.

kathybrjUnder the bed. Our mattress is made of a quilted cloth. I do think it will rip

Wayfarer[:D]We don t have any shepherd s poles. So I don t know where I store them.[:)]

WayfarerI store mine under the mattress. If you get rips storing them under the mattress won t you get rips in the tenting storing it on top of the mattress??
