slowpezLet s see, we have reservations for spring break in Key Largo, the last weekend of June is Camp Jeep 2003 here in Va., we have two weeks at two different state parks in Michigan in July.  We ll do lots of weekends close to home in the beautiful state parks of Va.  I m so desperate to camp that a night in the pu in the driveway sounds great about now.

If you want to know more about the campground and park contact Copcarguy.  He camps there a lot and loves it.  If you would like to join us May 9th weekend please do.  You can find more information in the camping club section under COTOC.

Thanks for the invite, but we already have a trip planned 5/16-5/18. Don t think we ll be able to go both weekends.

 Tell me more about Mongaup...
Mongaup is great! The park is large, and most of the sites are heavily wooded. IIRC it s all dry camping -- no hookups. There s probably 30-40 sites that are lake front (pond front?[:)]), which gives you a lot to choose from. There s 2 main sections, split by the lake itself, so you can camp in areas that cover better then 50% of the lake itself. There s also a lot of loops, so you aren t in one big area. Instead, you re situated in what s almost like little neighborhoods. At night I ve heard owls screeching and coyotes howling in the distance. Very cool! There s bears too, but I never had any problems with them. Stay closer to the water and you re less likely to encounter them.

The park is nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains. To get there you have to drive about 4-5 miles off the main road, up into the mountains. On the way you pass a fish hatchery that you can stroll around too. I really like the place.

Our favorite spot is Lake Luzerne, because it s close to home and far enough away from Lake George (not my favorite summertime place [: (]).

Cranberry Lake is supposed to be nice, although we haven t camped there yet (my sis has tent camped there). We also like Sacandaga State Park and are camping there Memorial Day and July 4th (my sis likes the Berry Patch section).

We shy away from populated places. I believe someone on the old boards used to camp at Rogers Rock State Park and really liked it. Moreau State Park is another popular one for the Saratoga region. Northampton State Park was where I spent my childhood summers, mostly in the day use area, but it s a nice spot on the lake.

Gone-Camping

greyhounds4meGetting time off from work will be my big problem, won t get any more vacation time until AFTER labor day weekend.

But I do have a few trips planned. Looking into an April trip somewhere, not sure if it will be Newport News Park or not (possible MAPCE meet there), or maybe head to Kiptopeke SP for a weekend.

We have Memorial Day and Labor Weekends reserved and confirmed at Ocean Waves Campground on Hatteras Island, and still trying to work in the 2003 Eastern Rally (I have reservations, but that vacation problem still exists)...

Still planning other trips too, family would like me to come up to New England for another reunion, but that may not be in the cards this year (I went up there twice last year).
