Has anyone  been to the Drummer Boy Campground or the Round Top Campground PA. Would like detailed information  if possible.

 Thanks

whitestar505We camped at Round Top Campground in September 2001.  Although we did not take advantage of them, there seemed to be a lot of activities scheduled.  They put out their activity schedule for the whole season on a flyer and I believe they have a website.

The site they put us on was tremendously well shaded.  It was somewhat narrow and mostly gravel.  Most of the sites where they put the " non seasonal campers"  were shady, and mostly gravel.  There was only one bathroom/shower facility and it was perhaps a 2 to 3 minute walk from our site, but it was very clean.  Their camp store had all the necessities.  They had a hay ride that went around several times in the evening and seemed like fun.  They have a reasonably large pool and indoor pavillion/meeting room and a game room.  Again, we did not use any of them.   I am a civil war nut, so we were really in the site only in the morning and the evening.

We liked staying there and would stay there again.  The campground is located on the southeast side of Big Round Top, right off of Rt 15, about 3 miles south of downtown Gettysburg.

whitestar505We will be at Round Top CG from June 28 thru July 5 along with 3 other families from the Georgia Campers group.  We will attend the Battle of Gettysburg Reenactment on July 4th.  We can t wait!!!!  I understand that this cg is located on the edge of the battlefield and it has been said that some have seen ghosts!  I am not sure what I think about this!!!   [:o]

jaycocamprsSounds Great, Wish I could be there but will be in up-state New York over the 4th of July. I have two time frames I am looking to fill. One is in June and the other in Oct of this year. Please let me know what you think of Round Top ?

 Thanks

Cheryl

 whitestar505Hi whitestar5055,
We ve camped in both CGs and like every where else they have their pluses and minuses. Granite Hill is very Hilly and many sites are unlevel. But they are very nice and clean. If I remember correctly they do not have a pool but do have a small lake and a water slide (Costs $).
Round Top is very close to Rt 15 and the back side of the campground hears a lot of the traffic noise from the high way. Sites are nice but my younguns ruined several sets of clothes climbing on BIG rocks covered in a slimy black moss. People at the CG were nice and it was clean.
 Hope this helps,
 Cheryl

whitestar505We camped there last year.  We pulled in late at night, and there were still people up being pretty loud.  I had the feeling they weren t to strict on thier quiet hours.  The site we had was small and had HUGE rocks, but others were not to bad.  It didn t hinder our set-up and the kids liked playing on them.  They did have a place were you could get breakfast at a reasonable price and wait - which we took advantage of!  There was also a huge pool and a pretty good size kids pool.  We left early too, so we didn t go in [:(] !!

This seemes pretty neat to me!  I ve never seen a ghost before so it would pique my curiosity!!  If you were going to see a ghost, Gettysburg is the place.  There is such a feeling of saddness and history.  We ve always had to rush our tour, since it s driving and the kids can t handle the in/out of the whole trip.  I would love to do it when they are older.  Have a great time - it is well worth it.

whitestar505We went to the reenactment last July and stayed at Granite Hill Campground which was just minutes away from everything.  Had a great wooded site backed up to a field, so it felt private.  We had a really nice time there, kids are begging us to go back for this year.  We re thinking about it, if it isn t all sold out yet.

whitestar505We camped at Drummer Boy last summer with the Mid Atlantic group on Yahoo.  The campground was nice for a private campground, but you want a site past the pond.  The campground is right off of RT 15 and the front sites are noisy.  We were right behind the pond and had a very nice site.

 Theresa,
I will be at Drummerboy during that period. Are you guys reenacting or visiting?

I am looking forward to the reenactment, but I will have to put 3000 miles behind me first!  But, that will be easy compared to the battles!! WhooHoo!

Maybe I will get a chance to meet some of the PUT folks from the East this Summer. ?.

 Larry & Veronica,
Man, you do have a long trip!  We are traveling from North GA, Atlanta and Savannah areas to G burg.  We are all really looking forward to the trip.
I m not sure of the distance between RoundTop and Drummer Boy but we would love to meet you guys.  We are not reenactors but one of the husbands in one of the other families is.  He is only visiting this trip....I think.  There has been a mention of him participating but I don t think it is definite.  I don t know about two of the families, but we and SavReb (from the pre-2003 board and the reenactor) will be camped on sites 34 & 35.  As time gets closer, maybe we can exchange cell phone numbers and plan a meeting while we are there!

Hope to see you in July!!!!

Sounds like a great plan! I think that I sent SavReb an email a while back, but didn t get a response! We will be in site 45 at Drummerboy thanks to rjs826.  I will be reenacting day 1 and day 3 (at least that s the plan right now).  Veronica doesn t do any of the period reenacting stuff like I do, and hopefully she will find enough to keep her busy while I am out there acting like a kid! I hope to do some night time battlefield walks, and I hope I do run into a ghost or 2....[8D]

My hope is to meet as many of the PUT as I can while back there...this is probably a once in a lifetime trip, and I want to see and do it all!!

 Please keep in touch!

The sites you have are near the front of the campground and right along the road everyone uses to get into the campground.  You might want to move further back into the campground.

Thanks for the information, I will pass it along.  But, SavReb s Mom is going to be with us and she needs to be as close as possible to a bathhouse.  Also, their son is going to be in a small tent. According to the lady at RT, there is a grassy place next to one of these sites that the tent could be set up on and it is reasonably close to the bathhouse.  This originally was their trip and we just jumped on the bandwagon!!!! [:D]

There has been talk within our group of trying to meet up with ghosts.....I personally am still debating on whether I ll participate!!!! [:o]

Wow, that would be fun!! Maybe we should start a thread that will give us (and those that will be in G burg) a place to post and arrange a sync-up day!  Just a thought.

rjs826, it is just as well that you couldn t find a site for the others...they backed out on me and decided it would be too hot back there then for them.

I, on the other hand am getting more and more excited by the day!
