I m looking for a portable dog bed that is dirt and water resistant on one side (for outside use) and fleecy on the other (for comfort when sleeping inside).  If it could fold up somehow, that would be great.

I found a portable dog bed on Ebay and the web, but it was made out of the same material as our sleeping bags and didn t look like it was really meant for outside use.

Have any of the doggie owners out there found a great buy?

Why for outside use ? I would think you would need it for inside. If you can find a peice of old carpet for patting on the ground he will use it When wet hang it up for drying. What do you think?

JemJen24WHAT?! Pharaoh ....sleeping on a crusty carpet mat...you JEST!  (ha ha ha)

Seriously....I think the carpet would hold too much sand/dirt.  I want something a bit " fluffier"  for him too.  He hates the hard ground.  I think because he has so little fat and hair, that it actually is uncomfortable for him.  He s also developing caluses and kennel elbow on his legs.

Cush, on the other hand, loves the coolness of the ground.  She s got thick long hair though and gets hot very fast.

JemJen24We picked up a cheap dog bed at BJs Wholesale Club for use while camping.  While the bottom is not water resistant, we only put it down on either the awning mat or on top of the picnik table.

I have given up on bringing it inside as Natasha has claimed the king sized bed as hers[;)], but she does allow us to sleep there too.

JemJen24Our cat has 2 knit throws that I bought at a garage sale for a quarter apiece.  The one he lays on outside goes on top of a plastic bag.  They take up less room, shake off and he loves them. They are easy to wash and dry in a short time.

JemJen24We use the fleecy rubber backed crate pads and put them on top of our old camping mats from our tent days.  The mats keep the rocks from annoying the whippets and also keep the bottoms of the pads clean so we can transfer the pads to the U sofa at night for them to sleep on.  Since the fleece pads are in their crates when driving, all we have to pack are the 2 thin camping mats instead of a thicker bed.

Don t know if this would help at petsmart - a rollup pet bed.  I like the idea of how it rolls up and would be out of the way.

JemJen24I saw Pharoah last weekend rolling in the dirt and wet grass.  He seemed happy to me.

JemJen24There are nice washable outdoor pet beds on this site.  It does not have a furry side but they look very comfortable.

JemJen24We got a  nice big bed for our dog at the Aliner dealer, on a good night he even shares the bed with us! (isn t that why we all got campers, so the dogs would have a bed[;)])

Seriously, we drag around carpet scraps for out by the fire. But he really prefers his own chair.

JemJen24For ole Sparky, I found a big old thick wool blanket at a yard sale.  I washed it (yes, washed) in the hottest water possible, then dried it in the drier.  It shrank up a little, but more important, the wool formed a warp, or weave (whatever) that was extremely tight, and almost waterproof.    Then I cut it in half, and depending on the situation (like the real cold hunting trips in November) he could lay on one and be covered with the other, or lay on both on the ground outside.  Or, just switch off to make sure he had a dry one each night.  I have a feeling that Spanky will soon be getting use to that blanket.

JemJen24You could always  spray the bottom of a dog bed with water proofing spray.

JemJen24Other than the crate, which we put outside...with its kinda waterresistant doggie mat

We have an inexpensive  bed  about 2 inches thick with polyfil that we just shake out when we pick it up.  It doesn t seem to be any worse for being wet, doggie, or  dirty - toss it in the washer if necessary.

Our other dog uses one of those round  cat  beds that has foam on the bottom and fluff on the inside.
