I know this subject was beat around in the old forum but it s probably worth repeating. Who carries a first aid kit camping? What s in it? With two active kids (10 & 13), we find a kit to be essential. Besides the basic kit, we carry Benadryl and Pepto Bismal. If all the stuff in it goes bad from lack of use, that s a good thing.

SkipPI wouldn t dream of leaving home without the first aid kit.
I have never found one that I found contained the usefull stuff so I have a tupperware container that is our kit.
I am a former nurse and dh  has advanced first aid training to go with his firefighting courses.
 Ours contains
 bandaids
 antibiotic cream
 a burn gel pack.
 Claritin Liquid (antihistamine)
 Cortisone cream
 tylenol
 gravol
 sling
tensor bandage (great to hold splints)
 alcohol wipes
 a bottle of aloe gel

A note please to everyone to take it all out and make sure nothing has sprung leaks or is outdated. I do this at the beginning of each season and be sure to replace anything you use asap.

SkipPI wish MrGadget was here to answer the question. I emailed him, (when CamperJones said we needed to have one), and asked what kind to get. He said we should have the Adventure Fundamentals kit (click [link=http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=226&prrfnbr=1091]HERE[/link]) in the popup & carry the Adventure Day Trippers (click [link=http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1090&prmenbr=226]HERE[/link]) in our vehicles. Just another expense for the endless money pit.  Peggy has added some pills & other junk to " customize"  them and feels comfortable knowing we now have everything the emergency surgical team will need to fix any problems that come up!  SkipPI agree about the importance of a first aid kit.  I found the commercial ones sparse for the price so I made my own using a soft-sided lunchbox that has a shoulder strap on it.

 a pair of scissors
 tweezers
 coins for emergency phone calls
bandaids (assorted sizes including knee & elbow, butterfly, fingertip)
 guaze pads in various sizes
 cloth tape
large muslin square for sling or bandage
 ace bandages
cotton balls and q-tips in a ziploc baggie
 rubber gloves
 Sting Eze
 antibacterial wipes
 moist burn pads
 sports tape
Benedryl (uh, oh, it s expired)
 Thermal Care heat wraps
 Disposable gloves
 medicine spoon
 Children s Motrin tablets
 Cortaid
Neosporin (thanks for asking about this  cause I noticed it s missing)
 Baby Oragel (for numbing splinters)
Imodium (whoops need to add that)
Waterless hand cleaner (also missing! - hum)

All of the above are small quanities - enough to get us started if needed.

When we camp I also pack liquid Benedryl and liquid Motrin for the kids, and Ibuprofin tablets for adults.  I also bring thermometers.

Last year we camped through a stomach bug, a sprained ankle, fevers and hives, and DH was so surprised that I always had what we needed.  I keep this kit in my car when we are not camping.

SkipPIf you have children you need more bandages then any first aid kit contains.  You also need allergy medicine, headache pills, something for bites. a small bottle of cough medicine, antibiotic ointment, etc.  If you have extras of any prescription drugs put them in also.
I went to a dollar store and stocked up to make my own kit.  Some do not carry much in the line of medicines.  I put mine in a plastic sewing box that  I bring it in the house between trips becase I do not think that the heat in the unpopped PU is good for the medicine and bandages.

SkipPWe keep one of the commercial first aid kits in each of the cars.  Not a lot in them but what is there might help out in an emergency.

During the summer season, we have a plastic sewing box that we put more items in.

Can t leave liquid stuff in the cars during the winter.  Sure to freeze.

I used to jockey an ambulance, so I carry a full EMT jump kit, mainly because I love the selection of supplies in them.  The thing that you listed (benadryl and PB) are great additions.  I also make sure that I have " Burn Gel"  and Neosporin Plus! I like having a large selection of bandages and dressings so this kit works out really well for me.  I go through our kit at the beginning of every camping season and check dates and replenish as necessary.
