I am happy to report that I used my camper last weekend at my son s sports car races and was able to use the DeWalt 18v drill to raise the roof. I was a little concerned that it might not be up to the job. My fears were blown away. It raised a 1999 Coleman 10 ft. roof with A/C like it was nothing. I was busy looking at the drill and the direction of torque on the handle to make sure it wouldn t give my arthritic wrists a painful jerk. I thought something was wrong since it was spinning so effortlessly....maybe the cables were broken or something. Well, it was going up like an elevator. Another good thing, the direction of movement was away from the hand so my fingers absorbed the force rather than pushing back into the wrist. I used the drill to lower/raise the BAL jacks like a dream. I had intended to remove the tongue jack handle and spin it with the drill, but didn t have the opportunity. I can see that that will work, too. Yeehaa! This weekend looks like a good weather opportunity. Wife has pneumonia, so we ll have to wait a while. Just thought you guys worrying about a drill might want to know. The 18v will do the job. You don t have to spring for the 24v.

WidewaderI tried my 12v Dewalt w/metal gears last weekend to see what it would do. In low w/torque of 350 in/lbs(says) it raised but with effort. The battery was not fully charged. Then I tried 3/8 120v dewalt drill, it didn t move. Don t think i will use the 12v to raise though.

WidewaderWide, how about a model number? Dewalt has lots of 18 volt drills in the catalog and I know some of them don t have sufficent torque to raise a roof.

WidewaderWish I knew that before I bought my 24 volt dewalt I got it on ebay
for 200$ new.The only thing is it has more power than what you need for every day things around the home. Not that I would ever get rid of it. I love tools in-fact
I think I need a intervention........... I buy to many tools[:D] It s like a drug. I m glad it works great for you

WidewaderWidewader what was the model and how much did it cost, if I can be nosey?

WidewaderI use a DeWalt 987, cost? With case, 2 batteries and charger, $239. [:o] But I use it for everything.... Roof, Bal, Stabilizers... Heck I even drill holes with it at home.

WidewaderOh, yeah. I forgot to mention the name, rank and serial number. It s a DW988 XRP 1/2"  Cordless Hammerdrill. I found it on ebay. I bought it direct from the seller. Its new with a battery and no case for $185. This drill has all metal gears. It is HEAVY DUTY. I didn t even need to use the detachable right-angle handle. I wish I had a case. I m carrying it around in a heavy duty nylon bag. Hey, that s only when I take it out of the workshop to the camper. I tried to find one, but it looks like they are only available with the set. Anyhoo, I am really happy with it.

WidewaderWide, try here: http://www.dewalt.com/us/core/  and use their customer service. All the parts in a " kit"  are available. It s just you need to find the part number and  someone willing to order them for you.

WidewaderI went to the DeWalt website just now and finally, after noodling around for about an hour, found the right page to order a Heavy Duty Kit Box. It cost about $30 with shipping. I ordered one. I guess if you add up the cost of the box and the $185 I paid for the drill and ONE battery, I didn t get such a good deal. The drill I bought on Ebay came in a cardboard box and had just the one battery. An extra battery costs about $80. There are times when I wish I hadn t done the math after the fact. Live and learn. Still happy with the drill.
