RE: building a better mouse trap??

My DH gets the " Joke of the Day" e-mailed to him. I thought this one was really cute and useful, especially since we typically get a new batch of mice once or twice a year.

" I found a really cheap way to get rid of mice. Put a little dry dog food (about a teaspoonful) in a 5 gallon plastic bucket and place it near a counter or table where the mice are. They will get in the bucket to get the dog food and can t get out. Then you can dispose of them as you like. Perhaps give them to your landlord. I have caught as many as thirteen in one night this way and its a lot cheaper than an exterminator"
I just may try this - I hate opening the traps off thier little heads, plus it ll be some new enterainment for the boys until we let them go in the woods! [

My inclination is, if they came into my house, that is a capital offense.

Releasing them into the woods makes sure there are plenty more next year, if these don t come back. Maybe I d consider it if the woods were half a mile from the nearest house.

Acts 2:38 girlAfter 3 or 4 years of trying to rid my home of mice, I have no sympathy for the little buggers. We no sooner think we ve gotten them all then we see another one. I d get a cat, but knowing my luck it would be one that liked to play with the mice!

Acts 2:38 girlI, too, have a mice problem. The glue boards have worked fairly well, but I guess the " fascination" must wear off cos I ve even put cheese in the middle and the cheese has been taken!

I even called the manufacturer about this. They practically laughed in disbelief and then asked me what kind of cheese I d put. Then they said something about cheddar being an oily cheese. Should I try Swiss cheese next time?

I must admit I apologize to them but I m getting less sympathetic.

I m certainly willing to give the dog food in the bucket method a try.

Acts 2:38 girlI would say talk to my son, but he s not having mych luck either. Problem is he s trying to catch the tooth fairy. His traps are getting more intricate (nearly broke my neck the last time trying to manuever around the shoes, cords and stuff he had strung up when I was trying to " help" the tooth fairy), but the tooth fairy is just to fast for him. Don t think I ll tell him about the glue boards.

Maybe he should try to see what type of food the Toothfairy likes and put that into a bucket!! Of course, she does have wings, so that wouldn t work. Hmmmm... I ll keep thinking! [

Acts 2:38 girlHe s actually using a bug catcher jar thing with a cork in the lid he got for x-mas from the Discovery Store. As far as food goes...Santa likes Bailey s Irish Creme on the rocks with cookies at our house..so maybe the tooth fairy would like that also. [

One night the goose and I heard a very strange noise coming from the garage. Went out there to find a mouse had gotten stuck in a bucket. The noise? It was trying to jump out and couldn t ~ we were hearing it land back in the bucket!! Since it was late ~ we decided to leave it there and take care of it in the morning. We checked the bucket the next morning only to find that sometime during the night the little guy had had some company and all 3 mice had expired....[: (]
Lots easier to deal with than bodies in the mouse trap, though![/font]

Acts 2:38 girlA few years ago we were camping at a PA state park. It was in October during the week and the park was just about empty. I used a 5 gallon bucket for my grey water (blue tote now) and it only had a couple of inches in it. In the morning 8 year old DS yells " Mom, Mom we have mice" , you guessed it. We had 7 dead mice in the drain bucket. That was the last time I used an open container for our drain water.

Acts 2:38 girlWe had mice last year, they chewed a big hole by the garage door! Luckily traps are 2 for a buck so I just threw the mice out with the trap. Once we plugged up the hole, we havn t had mice back yet {crossing my fingers} It was kind of funny though cuz we ed be eating breakfast and hear a trap snap, I d just smile.

]) I went into the kitchen closet, which is right near our bedroom, and there was the hamster in the bottom of a 30 gallon bin we use for dog food!! I was relieved I found our little pet instead of the cats! [
