 Hi All!

Well, after way too long a time (4 1/2 months to be exact!!!), DW and I finally got out to do a little camping on our last 2 weekends.  Oh boy!  Camping 2 weekends in a row!  Can t hardly stand it!  As promised last week, here s a review for both trips.  As many know, our " weekend"  is on Wednesday & Thursday.

Last week we went to Cleburne SP, Texas.  This park is not my number choice but is very nice and has a lot to offer.  You often go there as it is very close to our home.  Also, on this trip, Our DD, SIL and the grandbabies were there.  Our work schedule does not allow us to camp with them often so we grab what we can.

Trip was going fine until late Thursday afternoon.  DD and SIL were parked in the " full hook-up"  area next to another young couple, Archie and Tanya.  Their kiddos and our grandbabies had been playing together for the last few days and all was fine.  Archie, my SIL and myself had taken all the kiddos fishing earlier and my GS had caught a small bass (about 1 1/2 lbs), we d played the oddest game of baseball you have ever seen and generally had a great time.  About 5 pm, my SIL and myself were sitting in camp and Archie was running around with all the kids.

All of a sudden my GS came running in and announced that Archie had fallen and couldn t get up (Yes, I know the pun but not now!).  SIL and I hot-footed over to creek and saw that Archie had fallen on the other side while crossing on a tree that had grown across the creek.  Archie s 6 year old son climbs on the log and starts to cross with my SIL behind him and me bringing up the rear.  Archie s boy gets about 2/3 the way across, gets scared and freezes.  My SIL has to stop and I can t see what s happening.  By the time I realize that SIL has stopped, I have to stop real short to keep from plowing into him and knocking him into the creek.  When I do this, I start to lose my balance and KNOW I m headed for the water!  Bright Idea Time!!!  I ll drop onto my stomach, hug the tree to keep from falling in and the SIL can help me get up.  Sounds good!  Didn t work!  Dropped to my stomach, hugged the tree nice and tight and slid to the right, hitting the water with a great splash!  Not only did I get wet, dirty and completely lose any sense of dignity,  the inside of my right forearm looked like it had been attacked by a dull cheese grater!!!

My problem was minor.  Archie had broken both bones in his ankle.  He was taken to Wall s Hospital in Cleburne and NOT treated.  This is a story in itself.  Just let it be said that I do not recommend that hospital.  I understand the needed treatment has been done back in Ft. Worth the next day and he should recover.  Any way, not a real bad trip for us but we have had better.

This last Wednesday, DW and I hooked up again and headed for Mineral Wells SP, Texas.  This is one of our most favorite parks and we always look forward to a trip there.  All week long we had been promised perfect weather (They fibbed!) and we really wanted to get away from the hassles and the talk of war.  The Wednesday after 9/11 we tried the same thing for the same reasons.  Didn t work then.  Didn t work now.  We spent the biggest part of Wednesday and Thursday listening to and fretting over the radio.  By Thursday afternoon, DW had herself all worked up and only wanted to go home.  Got to say I wasn t enjoying the trip much either.  So, by about 4:15 pm Thursday, we d packed it all up and were home again.  DW was happier but not herself.  She went to the doctor this morning (Friday) and as I feared, her BP was way up.  Figure it s due to the war but doctor changed her meds and that should help.

Well, now you know the saga of two trips that could have been better.  We won t be heading out again until mid-April when we re scheduled to be in the Hill Country for a week.  Hope that trip is better.  We will be camping with Tom Collins and his DW on that trip and are looking forward to it.  Until then, I have a bunch of stuff to do and figure I won t even have time to think about camping.  Wishing a great time to all that will be camping over the next few weeks and please pray for our guys and gals overseas.  Would rather we didn t have to do this.  Thanks for letting me vent a bit.

Turn KeySounds like you need to focus on the positives...

 1.  You didn t get broken bones.
 2.  You obviously will never have to perform on a balance beam.
 3.  The cool water eased your temper.
 4.  DW did not fall in the water.
 5.  The kids had a good time.
 6.  You didn t dent the truck.

Seriously, what bummer weekend(day)s.  I met TomCollins at Inks Lake during the NTPUCA campout there last weekend (check out my pictures, Tom s in there).  He s a trip, you ll have a blast down in the hill country.  Be sure you ask his DW about the old terrier she has.  Funny story.  Take care buddy.
