We re wondering if we should store our PopUp in the driveway (which is a DEAD GIVEAWAY that we re NOT HOME if we go away), or in the garage (VERY tight fit!0, OR at a storage facility (cheapest here is $35. a month!!).

 What do YOU DO?

Trlrboy

my4cutiesWe keep ours in the 3rd bay of the garage.  I don t think the bad guys scope out campers to see who s home though.

my4cutiesOurs is always in the driveway.  During camping season it is on the pad right outside the garage and in the off-season we park it in the turn-around.  (and I agree with Bob ~ don t think people can tell whether or not you are home by the PU in (or not in) your driveway)

my4cutiesWe previously stored ours at a storage yard and paid upfront for a year and that brought it down to about $33.00 a month.  I now have a warehouse for work and am lucky enough to store it there.  I can also pop-up in the warehouse which is great.
 Regarding the PU being gone from the driveway and the masked one s (like Arvee) figuring out you re gone;
Like I said, we have never stored ours at home, but what does happen every day before a trip makes me cringe.  I bring it home to load bikes, clothes, and food.  Sure enough, like clock-work, neighbor s, stranger s, and people driving and walking by stop by to ask questions and inquire where we are going, lol.  I might as well stick a sign in the lawn giving our travel itinerary!  Oh well, that s what the dog, neighbor friends, house alarm, and insurance are for I guess.

my4cutiesTried the storage unit thing with the first rig(actually a barn the guy used for storage). Never again! Too many dents and scratches.[:@]
Now we keep the Pal next to the garage, where I can keep an eye on it(if it s not buried under snow)[;)]

my4cutiesFor 7 years our PU was stored in our drive way.  This past winter I was lucky enough to be allowed to keep it in the neighbors garage.  A bugler would be surprised if they went by the PU being gone as a sign that no one is at home.  DH doesn t camp so he is around even when the PU is gone.

my4cutiesFor the last two years we have stored may camper at a military installation. The price is right but seens like we store it in the woods and yes a mud hole. We have also had problems bring it in on the installation with security checks. I would keep this new one at home but it is 6"  to long for the garage so the door stays about a third open.

We have a home owners association and that makes it tuff to keep it out in the driveway. We here a lot of noise about it being there.

my4cutiesOur homeowners assoc. won t allow us to keep ours parked outside either but we do keep it in the garage.  Had to put hubby s new truck in the driveway but feel we have given priority to the most important part of our lives.  The PU just barely fits and also allows room for the jeep to sit next to it.  Of course, if want to get to anything else in the garage, we have to open the door to get around both the jeep and the PU.  Nice not having to worry about winterizing and all that stuff.  Also it is so easy to pick up and go (which we are doing Friday [:D]).

my4cutieswe keep ours at a campground 45mins from home

my4cutiesWe keep ours sstored in our garage. Unfortunately, we have only a 1« car garage, so the Santa Fe gets to be inside and the cars get to stay outside.

my4cutiesWe park our popup on the side of our house.  When we were house hunting last spring/summer, one the requirements for our ?new? house was that (1) there be an area outside where we could park our camper and that there be no homeowners association (HOA) restrictions on keeping our camper on our property, or (2) if there were severe HOA restrictions, there be a garage long enough to store the camper and a driveway long enough and level enough to open it up for packing and unpacking.  The tape measure always accompanied us when we looked at a house.  That drove our realtor crazy!

It turned out that there are in fact restrictions for storing campers and boats (we re in a water privileged community) on our property.   However, the covenant agreement says that as long as the camper cannot be seen from the street, then it is OK.   So our camper is off to the side, barely seen and our neighbors don?t care anyway.  ?Paper Plate? (the name of our camper) seems content in her new home.  We would like to apply gravel to the site.

When we lived in the townhouse, we found that it was a real pain to fetch the popup from the storage facility, which was over drive 45 minutes away.  It was the closest storage facility that had reasonable fees (for the Washington/Baltimore area) and very secure.  Also, breaking camp took a lot longer because we essentially prepared the popup for the next trip before we left the site.  A really bad thing if it is raining.  Speaking of rain, it was also a problem drying the popup out after returning the camper to the storage place.

Consequently, it was not surprise that if at all possible, our next house have a place where we could store our camper.

my4cutiesNow that the camping season has started we will keep ours out in the driveway. It will stay there till the end of the camping season, Thanksgiving. If we do go in Jan. or Feb we will get it out and put it back in the garage. Since our garage is at right angles with the driveway, we must push it in and out by hand. It s not something we want to do every trip.

Campaholics

my4cutiesWe have ours on the drive way when we are working on it, or preparing for a trip.
The rest of the time, it s at a storage facility about 10 minutes away.
