When we go camping we see some folks who have fires going from the minute they get to the site right through till they leave.  I imagine some campers use it for cooking, but I haven t seen many doing that.

Usually we always wait until about dinner time and get it going and don t put it out until around 11 pm.

CamperrooDepends on the weather.  Usually we build a fire in the evening, but if it s fall camping sometimes we will stoke it up in the a.m. and keep it going, too.  I haven t exactly mastered cooking over the fire yet, so don t do that.  But, all this talk makes me wish I were around the fire right now!

CamperrooWe  generally only have a fire at night unless we plan to cook dinner that way. Its usually just easier to grill something and save the fire for later.

tlhdoc

CamperrooIf we are cooking it can be any time of the day, if not for cooking then it is in the evening.

CamperrooWe tend to keep a campfire going as long as we are at the camp. When we leave to go out on the lake we put the fire out but it gets started as soon as we get back. We find dry leaves to put on it for the smoke to help keep mosquitos away. The campfire usually doesn t go out until my cousin Sharon get ready to turn in for the night, sometimes that can me 2am! [:o][:D]

Gone-Camping

CamperrooI usually only have one lit during the evening. But on the times my brother goes camping with me, he likes to keep one going all day long too. I figure as long as he wants to find or buy the wood, and tend to the fire then it s all right with me. But there is a limit as to how much smoke I want to get in my eye s in any one 24 hour period...[: (]

CamperrooUnless it s cold we only have a fire going in the evening.

Question for you people who have a fire burning all the time; where do you get all that wood? If we have a fire only in the evening -- and I m not talking a bonfire either -- we go through an awful lot of wood (split and seasoned hardwood too). Do you carry all that with you to the campground? Do you buy it from a local vendor?

ShirleyT

jawilsonWe always have plenty of wood and with 2 chainsaws it is no problem to go cut down a tree and get some more. OKAY BEFORE YOU FLAME ME........[:D]

We do cut down trees from our lots that have been damaged or are dying. We also can take any fallen trees from any unattended lot that we want (the community covenant says so), or trim branches that have been damaged. Guess it is one of the perks of owning your own camping site.

Camperroowe usually have one going in the pm, becuase were back and forth all day it wouldn t be to safe to keep it going.  Besides, we usually buy our firewood so we want to be frugal!!

ShirleyT - I went to your web site (nice pics), and wanted to tell you that you have a beautiful daughter!!  [:)]  What a beautiful face!

CamperrooOnly on cool mornings and damp days. Usually every evening while camping unless it s oppressively hot.

Trlrboy

CamperrooWe usually only make a fire in the evenings.  Occasionally if we are not planning on doing anything other than hanging around the campsite we ll get one going in the early afternoon and play with it a lot but that s been rare.

ForestCreature

CamperrooIf we hang around the sight all day, and it s cool out we keep a fire going all day.
Otherwise its just mornings and nights we have a fire . Morning coffee just wouldn t be the same without a fire.

Quotewhere do you get all that wood?
We bring wood with us (the van holds alot of wood), but if we need to we go out and cut some. Camping in the State Forests there is no shortage of wood, they allow cutting of downed trees.

Turn Key

CamperrooUnless I m using it to grill, fire time is after dark (or close to it) and sometimes DW will start one if she s up before dawn.  Very nice to get up to coffee and a fire when I don t have to make either[;)]!  Thanks, DW!  Love ya  a bunch!

missteri

CamperrooIf we re going to be around the site most of the day we ll have one going all day unless it s really hot.  We always have one at night, it wouldn t be camping without one!

Garrett

CamperrooWe always have a fire in the evenings, it would not be camping without one.  If it is cool in the morning I will usually build a fire and enjoy it while having my morning coffe.  BTW  you just have to try cooking fresh breakfast sausage links over a fire, just put them on a hot dog fork.  Less clean up and a real treat.  Depending on what is planned for the day in activities and meals, I will sometimes keep a fire smoldering all day and just stoke it up at meal times if we are going to cook on it.  I just add one piece of wood at a time to keep it going. Five or six piesces will last all day.
