Letter from radio station website in Lubbock, home of the Dixie Chick that spewed forth about our president:

 From: LT Layne McDowell

An open letter to the Dixie Chicks: Earlier this week, while performing in London, you stated that you were ashamed that our President is from your home state. I wonder if you realized how many Americans would be listening. This American was listening. This Texan is ashamed that you come from my state. I serve my country as an officer in the United States Navy. Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off carriers around the world, executing the missions that preserve the very freedom you claim to exercise. I have proudly fought for my country in the skies over Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan without regret. Though I may disagree wholeheartedly with your comments, I will defend to the death your right to say them, in America. But for you to travel to a foreign land and publicly criticize our Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would you have so willingly made those comments while performing for a patriotic, flag-waving crowd of Texans in Lubbock. I would imagine not. How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and patriotism while criticizing their Commander in Chief abroad, even while they prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of speech. Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do not try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only because you care about innocent lives. Never once in our history have we committed troops to war for the purpose of taking innocent lives. We do it to protect innocent lives, even yours. If the world leaders of the late 1930 s had the vision and courage of our present Commander in Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused the death of millions in WWII would have never had the opportunity to harm a soul. The potential loss of millions of lives in the future at the hands of today s evil men necessitate action. In a separate correspondence, I am returning to you each and every Dixie Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever purchased. Never again will I allow my funds to support your behavior. All you have done is to add your name to a growing list of American " Celebrities"  who have failed to realize that they have obtained their successes on the backs of the American blue-collar workers such as our servicemen and women.

To Natalie Maines: This Texan, this American will continue to risk his life to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?
 Thank You.

WayfarerI thank you for your service to this great country. I support this country, our troops and am also ashamed of my president. That is of course is my right and one of the rights you fought to protect but this commander and Chief has gone out of his why to try to box in anyone in this country who is opposed to his war agenda as Un-American, Unpatriotic and Unsupportive of the troops as means to silence them. I say his actions are therefore Unpatriotic and Un-American. He should be ashamed of himself!

WayfarerIMO, Dixie s deserve whatever they get from this. (as far as bad publicity, and loss of sales) Not because they shouldn t be able to believe or even say what they want. But because they sing music that tends to be very American, especially considering their current big hit. She had to know that at least half (much more) of their fans would be against it.

We have the right to say what we want, but everyone else also has the right to disagree.

I guess I don t feel the President needs to make his protester s feel good about themselves. If anyone wants to protest, go for it, but don t expect those you oppose to thank you for doing it.

WayfarerI say..the Dixie Chicks were excercising they re rights to free speech.  They can say what ever they want.  But the fans (or ex I should say now) that choose to no longer buy their CD s (and pitch the ones they have into the trash), and the radio stations the choose to take them off the air are also exercising their rights.  I just hope they can get their old jobs back.  [;)]

WayfarerHow in the world are you exercising your rights when you run your mouth in another country? It would be totally different if Natalie would have ran her mouth over here. At least she would not be looked upon as a coward.

WayfarerI wasn t really supporting them, just trying to make a point, but since you mentioned it..the UK has freedom of speech also if I remember right (at least it did when I was there).  My point is I just get tired of celebrities making huge sums of money doing things,,then stating they re against the very thing they re making money from.  To clarify..I was a lil shocked to learn Sigorney Weaver is an anti gun advocate..yet she made all those movies like the Alien series.  I wonder how many actors that are against the war made movies about wars they didn t believe in.

LoadedCamera

rednekrubbrduckJust remember, the Actors and Musicians are all doing what they do to make money...  they don t have to believe in what they are doing to enjoy the benefits of it.

Anti-Gun, or Anti-War choices doesn t mean that they will turn down 2 million dollars to do a movie about Guns or war...

 Its just a movie, right????

My opinion is that they should give back all the money that they have made off of War or Gun related movies, music, shows...  that may make them think first...

WayfarerIan, I agree. Hollywood types seem to say one thing and do another.  Not always the case, but often enough for us to take notice.   I m curious to see how much of a crowd the Dixie Chicks get when they kick off the American leg of their tour in Greenville, SC.  The newspapers here said that it is a sold-out show, but that they have had many requests for refunds after their anti-Bush comments.  The problem is that the tickets are non-refundable.  So we ll see what happens.

 WayfarerWayfarer,

Thank you for posting that letter.  I for one will never purchase anything with the Dixie Chicks on it.  I will never go to a concert that they are part of.  I agree that Natalie has a right to say whatever she wants to say, but please have the nerve to say it in this country!  GOD BLESS THE USA AND OUR TROOPS WHO ARE THERE TO DEFEND US NO MATTER WHAT!
