Well, I broke down and bought myself a new Craftsman 18V drill.  Got it on clearance at the local store for $150.  I ll try it out as soon as I get my socket genie from the PUT store.  Now all I ve got to do is explain why I need yet another expensive tool to the DW.

 TrlrboyHi Bob,

I was the same way with Terry, DW, she wanted to know why I needed a $100 drill just to use every once in a while, with a $30 special socket on it. I had bought a cheaper drill and had to return it because it didn t have enough power. Her recommendation was to cut our losses (Socket Jeanie) and run, but I had to prove to myself that it was going to work!

After my SPUT, I was keeping a low profile about purchasing the drill. After getting the credit card statement from Home Depot (those statements will get you everytime), she finally put 2 & 2 together and figured out how I popped the cable on the lifting mechanism of our Santa Fe. She really not too impressed about my latest purchase. She will be when we use it for the first time, especially during the summer, and she doesn t have to get worn out or sweaty from cracking.

The saga continues and never ends!

TrlrboyI too am using a drill now and it is the best!  Raising the roof is not even a second thought now.  Wish I had started using one a while ago in fact.
Anyway, not wanting to take Bearknat s glory from him and over-crank the cables myself, I raised the roof and then made a mark with a black permanent marker 1 inch up the lifter posts on the 2 upper-rear posts.  When the black dots appear (DS watches for them to appear because the canvas blocks my view), I then stop the drill and go to the hand crank for the final 1 1/2 cranks.  I also stop drilling the stabilizers down when they touch the ground and then hand crank them tight so as not to raise the PU too high by accident (could happen very easily and quickly) with the drill.
One other minor mod.;  Being an anal guy who likes everything in one location, I also notched out the compartment separator walls in the drill carrying case with a razor blade so that the Socket Genie and hand crank both fit inside with the drill, batteries, charger, etc....  The drill carrying case (with everything inside) fits nicely in the cabinet over the wheel-well just inside the stepper door.

TrlrboyChuck:  I had to laugh about the credit card statements.  I ve run into that problem myself but it usually involved golf clubs.  I figure I should have the socket genie in a week or so and then we go camping for 4 days over the Easter weekend at Cooper Lake SP near Sulphur Springs with a bunch of people from the NTPUCA.  Join us if you like.  It ll be my first trial with the new drill and maybethe DW will have already done the yelling.  On the good side though, I sold my earlier cordless drill to a friend of mine at work for $35 so that s a " savings" .... right?

Jeff:  I like the idea about keeping all the stuff together and marking the lifter posts.

 Thanks guys.

 TrlrboyBob,

Which model Craftsman Drill did you get?  They are on sale up here as well and I am in the market for one.  Just want to make sure I get one with metal gears that will last.

I have frequent problems with muscle spasms in my back between left shoulder blade and spine.  Cranking can really agravate them.  DW is well aware of this and she is the one that bought the sale at Sears to my attention.

As for those instances when she found an unexpected large charge on the credit card statement from sporting goods store[:o], heck I just went right down to the jewelry store and bought her something shiny or sparkly[;)].  I stay poor but never sleep in the dog house.[:D]

TrlrboyI don t have a problem over cranking. I ve under cranked my PU a couple of times. I found out when I tried to put the door in and the roof was too low.

I was watching the history channel the other day .They had a show on the history of power tools. I was really neat. Especialy when they said the first person to invent a cicular saw was a women. Her name was Tabatha Bobbit. She cam eup with the idea of the circular saw. So if we tell them wemon started the whole idea of power tools. If they didn t want us to use them they {wemon} should never had invevted them.  I am not even alowed to take credit cards to Home Depot.

TrlrboyRamblingWreck...  Model number is Craftsman 927124.  I also paid an extra $30 for an extra 3 year replacement (better than just repair) warranty.  Came with two Ni-Cad battery packs.

I just got the PUT adapter today so I m all set.  Vroom, vroom.

 Red neff BarchettaHi Jeff,

Great idea about the " marker dots."  When we go on our trip in May and set the camper up, I ll mark the posts.

Our Santa Fe is over at the deal right now, getting its annual checkup as well as getting the severed cable replaced. I was pretty close in my estimate. Its going to be $130 to replace the cable.

I solved that problem, my credit card statement is sent to me at work...he never sees it.

Then I have whatever I order sent to me at work, he does not see it until I bring it out...he has not noticed the prodigy brake controller on HIS truck yet.

 TrlrboyOK, Paula,

How do you  hide  a brake controller...

Bearnkat

 TrlrboyHi Bob,

Thanks for the " flowers"  about the journal. Its in the process of being redone as we speak. The one that is online is kind of rough. We ve also got 6 more trips that have been taken to add to the online journal.

We are definitely planning on joining you as soon as we can.

Is there a trip planned for September?

 Thanks,
