A friend just bought a used Taos.  It came with several mods.

One interesting thing was that instead of wrestling with pulling out the electrical cord from under the dinette (putting away and pulling out can be quite a pain when you re on your own!), he coiled it around the corner of the rear bumber (of the camper) and kept it in place with (I think) a bungee cord.

In case this is not clear: when you are pulling out the cord (from the outside, of course) it sometimes needs a bit of adjustment on the inside, and more so when you are trying to push it back.

This method also liberates some internal storage space.

Does anyone else do this?  Comments?

sandykayakEvery spring I wipe down the cord with a very light coating of silicone spray and have never had a cord hang up in 7 years of popup camping.  I made a divider under my dinette to keep the cord contained in a smaller area and it seems to work well.

sandykayakThe other option is to modify it[;)]

How about the [link=http://www.title-3.com/DetachPower.htm]Detachable Power Cord[/link]

sandykayakI would go with Tim s idea, rather than a bungee. What if it breaks? Don t need a tail waggin  down the road. Then get to where you want to go and no cord. Not a good idea.

tlhdoc

sandykayakI put a shelf over my power cord so that I have more storage in that seat.  I can now keep my extra power cords and t.v. cable on top of the campers power cord.  This mod is simple.  You can see it at http://community.webshots.com/user/tlhdoc under my PU camper.

sandykayakI d also be wary of the condition of the plug after driving around with it hanging near the rear bumper. Weather causes enough electrical problems with TV/camper connections without adding anymore to it.
The detachable power cord option is pricey but a much better solution than leaving it out and hanging where the weather can get at it.

sandykayakWe went with the detachable power cord, got all the info from Tim5055 s website.  We would do it again in a minute if we bought a new camper.  Liberates storage - on our second or third trip out with the new Bayside we had problems pulling out the cord.  It had gotten wrapped up in the stuff I had in the cabinet - I had no idea that the cabinet doubled as cord storage! [:o] Our previous Jayco had a separate place for the cord.  We ve been pretty happy with the detachable system.

sandykayakoh, dear...i like the detachable system, but not sure if i can find a guy friend who can do that sort of work.

sandykayakI could do it for ya. When will you be in NJ next? [:D]

sandykayak

sandykayaknow...let s see...it s about 80 degrees in Miami now...what did you say your temperature in NJ is?[;)]

perhaps we could make a deal:  if you come to Miami for your vacation and do the work (hmmm...better check Natasha s site for any other possible mods [8D], I ll lend you the popup.  I could drive it down to the Keys, say, and you go sightseeing in a rental vehicle.

MtnCamper

sandykayakYou clould always bring it to Colorado, I d do it too. But don t forget that little boat thing.[;)]

sandykayak

 sandykayakumm..what little boat thing?

MtnCamper

sandykayakGoing with an assumption, are you a Kayak er?

sandykayak

sandykayakOhhhhh, THAT boat thing.  good guess

Seda Gypsy 15  decked glass boat
 TWO Hobie Pursuits 12  SOTs
 Kiwi Lobo  9  decked yak
Puffin 10.5  Folding Kayak  (same as the one reviewed by PUT www.pakboats.com)

I have this tendency to overdo things[&:] well, shucks, if I have a tent for every occasion, Ise gotta have a yak for every occasion, too.

The two Hobies thing is because I got tired of this scenario:  get new boat, invite friend (or friend invites self), give older boat for friend to use, friend can t keep up, switch boats....end up thinking,

" What is wrong with this picture?  I m paddling my old boat and my friend gets to paddle the new one."

I must have about 8 or 9 tents - and I sold one last year and am giving one away this week...but I couldn t resist the awesome Werner (? same folk who make the Swiss Army Knife) tent at Costco last month.

It was a steal at $50, but positively embarassing less the $15 coupon.  $35 for a tent that looks just like one I saw at Target (I believe) that was reduced from $120 to $70.  It has ventilation on all four sides, plus a skylight, plus some other nice extras.

I ll be using the new tent in June when we go camping to Peanut Island in Palm Beach County.  (boy, some people do ramble on, don t they?[:(]

I sold about three boats last year to raise enough money for the downpayment on the Popup!!!

BTW, I forwarded this thread to my friend at the top of this thread - the one who bought a Taos with the shore line wrapped around the bumper - and he reckoned that he could do it...and said if my converter was like his (whatever that is, exactly) he d do mine as well.

We ll be camping on April 18, so we ll do a " show my yours and I ll show you mine,"  I guess.[8D]

sandykayakI just got the detachable cord kit and I hope to install it soon. I will let everyone know how it works.
