notrailendsIf I remember correctly, there was quite a discussion about using the bearing buddies on a popup on the old board.

I tried to do a search on the old board but could not find the info.

I believe there was some discussion as to whether or not the buddies effectively lubricated the bearings.

There were also some comments that the bearing buddies were more for a boat trailer where water was more of a factor.

Perhaps someone else more knowledgeable or with a younger memory could help out.

notrailendsGene I remember the same thing you did.  That they were not really that good for PU trailers.

notrailendsBasically the Bearing buddies are for use when you ve got a axle that will see immersion in water. Ever been on a launching ramp and watched someone just in from several hundred miles on the road immediately back the trailer into the water to launch. Sounds like a frying steak. That rapid cooling off litterally sucks water into the bearings past the seals. The bearing buddies posative pressure keeps that from happening and also can force water back out by forcing grease in.
Since we don t as a habit imerse our axles into water there is little need for positive pressure in the wheel hub.
The bearing buddies also tend to leak grease past the seals and on PU s with brakes can make for a loss of braking power when the shoes get greased.
Also they are NOT a replacement for yearly bearing regreasing.
In over 30 years of towing and being around litterally thousands of trailers, EVERY one of the at least 50 bearing failures was due to improper maintenance, such as non regreasing yearly, over packing the hub with grease, or overtightening the castle nut. Not one of these situations would have been different with bearing buddies.
