We are buying a new 2003 Coleman Bayside, and had to turn down two units because of water damage in the trunk area! It seems that the side access door is the problem. The access door has two latches - one that is keyed and one that is just a latch. If the key latch is left unlocked, the door does not seal properly allowing water to enter the trunk.

Has anyone else had this problem?
If not, please be sure to lock or close both latches during storage or rain!!!

gashI have a 2001 Coleman Niagara and have the same problem.  Although I did not find out until this year where the water was coming in at.  I have the outside wall with the door in it that is swelled from the water, also a small portion of the back wall against the camper.

I have been trying to decide on whether to call Coleman about the " defect"  as a Mfr. problem, going to fix it but would love to fix the walls also.

gashNever had the problem with our Niagara, I did file the lock so that I could remove the key with the lock in the unlock position so it made a good seal.  Once we set up I never locked it, did have a few rain camps and no leaks.  I wonder if they changed things at some point.

gashMaybe just a problem with Coleman Bayside only. We have a new 03 Utah that has been out all winter and no leaks. [:o][:(]

gashOur 2002 Utah was under a carport all winter, but that is open on the sides. We did not have any water in our trunk.

After some horizontal rain at one campground, we did do a thorough check for leaks and found none.

gashOur 2000 Bayside only has the key latch, so it s always locked.  We had a water problem in the front trunk, but it was due to a leaky connection at the hot water heater.  Ten seconds with a screwdriver fixed the leak, but it took 15 minutes with two bath towels to get all the water out.
