I just picked up a set tacky lights. Well they re not really tacky but more like the long rope lights. I just wanted to know what someone who has these type of lights uses to hang them under their awning. I have seen SCCS s lights, but did not pay attention to how he hung them. Any suggestions would help.

champ521my initial respons to the subject line was going to be: with a sense of humor...but yours aren t tacky....better luck next time[;)]

I have had the most luck with the metal snap/clips (the ones that have a snap/clip on each side) from Camping World.  I tried the plastic ones but they didn t hold the weight well.

I just bought a 24  length of blue rope light with the intention of copying a friend who uses it as a guiding light to/from the bathhouse by laying it on the ground.

I have sun-and-moon tacky lights and chili peppers...but all I use is some multi-colored xmas tree lights.  Am thinking of putting the chili ones under the upper kitchen cabinet over the " bar/serving"  counter that faces the family room.

champ521I use binder clips from Wal-Mart or any office supply store.

champ521i use the 3M command cord clips, they are those new tape stickys that you can pull off with out damaging the surface they are white so they blend in, and they hold well and are " neat looking"   we have rope lights around the top  half  and they clip right on. on the awning we use the awning clips, looks like suspenders ends (mitten holders)

Camping Coxes

champ521We use zip ties.  When you break camp, you just snip them off and throw them away.  You could also use the velcro strips made to hold the computer cables together.  Most office supply stores have them in a pack of about five.

champ521The zip ties are a good idea - very affordable.  We don t have " tacky"  lights - I think thier pretty elegant!!  [;)] They are large 4"  dia, clear, round bulbs that already have the clips on them.  We got them from the auction at last years rally.  What I d like to consider are the clear rope lights, only because they have a dimmer on them.  With all the bulbs lit on ours it lights up the inside of the camper like daylight (not sleep inductive to three little boys!!) Plus, the area around the camper is way to bright.  Last year I ended up unscrewing every other bulb, just to soften the effect until we went to bed.  Then I turn them off!

champ521Speaking of the velcro strips.  We use them for many things.  To strap up the A/C cord when popping down, small electrical cords, cords to coffee-pot, etc.  I just found some at Dollar Tree! The only colors are red or green but for $1, who cares.  At other stores the are $3.99!!

champ521We use the velco clips made to hold tacky lights sold in the RV store.  The clip is on the wire and a small piece of velco goes on the inside of the awning.  To roll up you leave the clip on the wire and pull from the awning.

champ521Go to Walmart.  Go to the section where they sell plastic hangers.  See the ones that have these little clips to hang skirts on?  Look around, you ll find a bag of about 12 of the little white clips.  There are perfect for putting up rope lights or any other kind of tacky light.  They also will hold your bunk end solar covers in place.

champ521For regular tacky lights, of which we have many, we bought a large bag of colored clothes pins and clip the lights to the frame of the awning.
For rope lights we use a set of " s"  hooks or bread ties for our clothes pins to grab hold of.

 champ521Zip ties.

Make a loop, put them in the holes in the awning frame.  Loop the zip ties them into the cloth loops that your poles go in.

Works for our rope lights.  Takes about 2 minutes to hang, about 30 seconds to pull down.

wssfetch

champ521Plastic clothes pins.  Don t damage the awning.  Cheap.

champ521After the wind was blowing mine off with the cheap platic clips from Camping World, I used colored binder clips. They worked great.

champ521Believe it or not - duct tape.[;)]   Our tacky lights hang from the metal part of our awing, (front only) so the color of the tape blends in and doesn t look bad at all.  Just tear off or cut as many strips as needed, easy and cheap.  Nothing sticks out other than the lights themsleves, and you d have to get really close to see the tape on the metal.
