Okay, this is probably preaching to the choir for the PUT Rally attendee s from last year. Stayed in the CG the first weekend in April and had a great time. I d guess Saturday the CG was about 1/2 - 2/3 s full with about 12-15 Pop-Ups spread about. We were on a riverfront site....#123...and felt like it was one of the premium sites. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The CG was in excellent shape...it looked like the staff was busy sprucing up for spring and the landscaping adds a lot to a private CG. Wish my yard looked as nice at home[;)]

The bathhouses were in excellent shape and very clean. I especially liked the individual shower stalls. The one drawback I could see was the porta-potty placed down near our site for the lower end of the CG. Didn t have any issues with odor or anything....just the banging of the plastic door when someone let  er fly.

Overall, I d rate the CG a 9 on a scale of 1-10 and look forward to returning.

Oh, BTW, the spring wildflowers were just getting started. Here are a few pics from the Smoky s: http://community.webshots.com/user/skipp35

SkipPI second all that you said, except that it may be VERY close to a 10/10. We stayed there the last weekend in March. Although we woke up to snow, we had a very good weekend, and also had a river site.

To anyone who hasn t been there, it is great. Their website is http://www.littlerivervillage.com

Some pictures of our stay are at http://www.larryandhollycrockett.com/places.html

SkipPOne word describes this campground...WOW!  My wife and I just got back from our vacation in which we camped at LRV - 4/26-5/1.  We chose the campground because of all the recommendations that we received from this and other websites.  We have stayed at many campgrounds, but this has to rank as one of the best.  It ranks a 10 in our book.  We stayed at site 121 and would highly recommend it.  As has been stated the bathrooms are superb and the campground is immaculant.  From central TX it was a two day drive to get there, but every bit worth it.  From LRV all the great spots of the Smokies are at your doorstep.

Wee Campers

SkipPWe are quite the newbie when it comes to camping in private campgrounds so I was wondering...are all campground sites as close together as the ones at LRV? We spent Mother s day weekend there and I agree with everything posted here about the campground but did feel kind of " canned"  while there. You know like sardines.

Also, I m new to all this forum stuff. Where can I find out what all these/those emoticons mean?

I think you will find variety in commercial campgrounds as far as site size goes.  The thing to keep in mind are that they are in business to make money.

Larger sites costs them money in two ways:
 [ul]

  • With larger sites they can have fewer spaces on the land available - thus less income form the land
  • With larger sites it is more expensive to run the utilities to each site as they have further to travel with the wires and pipes
  • [/ul]

I think LRV makes up for the small sites by keeping an attentive staff on hand and maintaining the campground amenities is good shape.

As to your second question, I don t know of a list of the emoticon meanings.  I ve always just selected one that seem to match the thought I am trying to convey[;)]

SkipPThanks for the reply.  I can see your (their) business point.  I did find the grounds nicely landscaped, extremely clean and our hosts were very friendly. They seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. We think the Townsend side of the Smokies is the best place to stay when we travel " up north"  from Louisiana. [:)]

My opinion:

On my own personal scale of a 1 to 10, I give the Little River Village Campground an 8.  This is a family run operation and the attention to detail shows.

Many of the sites are a little small for my taste, but the  facilities and staff more than made up for this.  The river front sites give you  a little more breathing room so book one if you can.

The campground has a staff that would put most other campgrounds to shame.  There is always someone around when you need them and they are very attentive to campers needs.  Two modern bath houses provide sufficient facilities at all but the busiest times of the day.  The main bathhouse closes from 1p to 3p for cleaning.

A beautiful and well maintained pool is open 10a to 10p, with 10p to midnight available for adults only.  Many rental items are available including tubes for riding down the river as well a bicycles.  A half court basketball court is available, and  you can check out a ball from the office.

The landscaping is beautiful which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.  For the kids in addition to the pool there is riverfront area for swimming, a play area with swings and teatherball, and a game room that includes a pool table.

A well stocked camp store is open all day (and most of the night) to provide those things you might have forgotten.  The best deal is the Little River Village Coffee Mug.  For $4.95 you get unlimited 25 cent refills for your stay!  If you need a little more variety, a supermarket is less than one mile to the west.

The campground is located right outside the Townsend entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park  and is just a short drive to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Between these two cities and the amusement parks in the area (like Dollywood) there is plenty to do for everyone in the family.
