Just checking to see if anyone has been here ? Looking at going on one of those LET S GO WEEKENDS if you know what I mean. Steve, how about you? Comming from north of Baltimore on 95, what is the best way to get around the tunnel going to this location? I have to much LP to go throught the tunnel. Please hurry, I feel a weekend comming on.[:D]

 whitestar505Whitestar,

It sounds as if you ll need to take 695 towards Towson. I would recommend then taking 70 west towards Frederick and then to 340 and 15 south in VA and continue on Rt 7 east to Winchester. It s a more scenic drive than trying to navigate 95 and 495 in DC and Rt 7 off of 495 is no fun either. 15 south is a wide two lane 55er. The only drawback may be sway from oncoming trailers but probably not a problem with the Envoy. You ll also be going against the rush once you get past 70.

What is a " let s go weekend" ? I m guessing a Friday afternoon....look at one another and say......

 Hope this helps.

 whitestar505Whitestar,

We usually go there just before the kids go back to school and tube the Shenandoah River.  As for the campground itself, bring plenty of water hose, electrical cord, and levelers.  It seems that there is only 1 w/e service per 2 sites. There are plenty of trees and most lots are big but being on a hill, they are not very level.  The bathrooms are clean, the people friendly, and the water slide was fun!

Coming from Va Beach, I really can t say the best way to get there.  Although I agree with MattH that the backroads are very scenic.  If you get to Winchester, stop at a store called Gabrielle s...great deal on clothes!

 MattHMatth,

You hit the nail on the head. [:)]Great, Thanks.... You must be in my mind, what little I have left, today. I am going to track that route out here .

whitestar505If your are willing to try a " Dry Weekend" ,  the forest service has the Elizabeth Furnace campground right off I-66 at the Front Royal exit.

No electric and a few water sources around the loops.  Beautiful campground

Looks like a very nice place. I can camp dry but not without electric. Need it for A/C due to astham. Only in the summer months....

 Budman23462Budman23462,

Thanks for the info. Great ! Would you say that it is more that 5 degrees off level? If we go will stop at Gabrielle s... Thanks Again![:)]

Budman23462

whitestar505I really don t know how many degrees from level the sites were, we use a basic bubble level.  After our last trip, it was the reason we purchased the Lynx Levelers from the PUT Store.  Hopefully when you decide to go there won t be a full house and you can choose a decent site.

 Dear Kamper:

Yes, it is true we have 4 full hookup sites and 11 water/electric sites that use the same hookups. This is for people that like to be adjacent, the site are set up so peoples rigs can face each other.  As for the other concerns if you have the standard lengths of water hose, cord, and sewer hose there hasn t been a problem.  We do have some sites that are not as level as others, but most campers carry leveling blocks in their rigs for those reasons at all parks.

This is the respond I got when I wote them. You are right, They are way short of what they claim. So we decieded not to go there. We are going to KOA Hagerstown. Have any info on them. Thanks [:)]
