Has anyone out there bought the Carefree screen room for their Coleman ? Was looking into at the dealers and they stated that I have to measure the awing in order to deceide if I need a 11 6"  or 12  5"  room. Has anyone?

whitestar505If it s anything like the screen room they sold with the 2000 models (one-piece), it can be a pain in the neck.  Ours is close to 30 feet long and is an adventure to attach every time.

We only use it when things are very buggy.

I believe the Add-A-Rooms (AAR) are in three pieces and are easier to handle.

 AustinBostonAustinBoston,

We bought a Coleman for our Sadona   when we had it and it was one peice also.  So no differance there. Price was out of this world.

whitestar505i want to get the screen room for the campout...and i have to measure the awning also and forgot to this last trip...sigh...i don t care if its a hassle to put up as long as it helps cut down on bugs...ick.

whitestar505If you have a 12 foot Coleman, you will need an 11 foot Carefree awning.  We have the campout model and went through all this a couple of years ago, dealer ordered a 12 footer for a 12 foot box, it doesn t work that way. But the carefree campout is a definite upgrade from that old Coleman supplied awning for sure, now we have no poles or ropes to trip over anymore and set up is about as easy as one can imagine. Measure your drip rail that the awning connects to the roof inside, that s the measurment that the dealer will need so as to order the correct size. You will have extra rail on each end of the awning, but it s not that noticibale.

 Hope this helps

whitestar505I agree with what Karen said.  The 12  pop-up box probably has an 11ft or 11ft-6in awning on it.  Measure the end of the awning (the end away from the camper) pole to determine the length.  I would also recommend getting an Add a Room instead of the screenroom.  I had an AAR for the Jayco (my first PU) and bought a Carefree AAR for the Rockwood.  I am pleased with the Rockwood AAR, but liked the door location on the Jayco better.  The Carefree AAR is a 3 piece design and easy to set-up.  The Jayco AAR was a one piece design and was much more of a task to set it up..... even with all that, we use the AAR on almost every trip.....

whitestar505Hey GCCamper..aabout how much did your aar cost...that is what is stopping me from getting one...if i read the adds right they are about 200 bucks a panel and that comes out to 600 bucks..or did i read this wrong....

whitestar505Two years ago I purchased an AAR for my 10 foot Coleman and paid $350 for it.

Gamecock Camper

whitestar505I searched the internet and found a dealer that sold it to me for around $340 if I remember correctly.  I ll go look for the invoice or credit card bill.  $600 would be way to high.  The screen rooms are around $100 less, but the AAR is much more usable IMO.

 Gamecock CamperOkay Guys,

Why would I rather have a AAR room over a Screen Room. The cost, even getting them from CareFree is 100% more, but worst of all I can not think of why I would need one. Any ideas? I smell the smoke of thinking brains....[:D]

 whitestar505whitestar505 -

We are also looking into the AAR.  I like the idea of having the advantage of a screen room (no buggies) and being able to drop the flaps in colder weather or when it s raining and having the extra space.  Any extra space with 2 kids and 2 dogs is always a plus - especially in bad weather. Alos if it rains, we drop the flaps and the chairs and other gear stays dry, whereas in a screenroom they d still get wet.

If all we wanted was to defeat the bugs then we d go for the screen room, but the AAR just gives us some extra options.

It s the price that is holding us back though.

whitestar505i must be reading the adds wrong...cuz i thought the flaps in the screen room where extra as well..

whippetwrun

whitestar505hi all - I just started a poll about screen rooms vs. AARs in the polls forum.  It would be a help to those unsure about them, like me!

What brand of screen room are you looking at that sells flaps extras?

whitestar505I know I ve asked this before (I think) but for the AAR s, or screen rooms, does it go by the size of the awning or that thing that you have to unzipper? We measured the awning on our Rockwood 1908 and it was 9 1/2 feet or some odd size. Does that mean we get a 10 foot AAR?

Also, if and when we get one, it will probably be thru JC Whitney.  The last time I saw the prices, they seemed okay, of course I can t find a book, we only have about 500 JC Whitney s around here! [;)]
