 Hi,

Just before the old board - may it rest in peace - passed into the nether world, there was a posting about knitting and for the life of me - I can t remember who all was in on it...

I just have a tiny question - really a small one - how the heck do you stop?  I can t stop - I m doing mittens like there s no tomorrow.... big mittens, little mittens... it s become an obsession - I think I could knit in my sleep....

Did the seeker ever find a popup pattern for her sweater??  maybe a sweater is the cure?

 HELP!!!

CJnRaeI started that thread on the other board cuz I was thinking of making a sweater coat with a pop-up camper pattern on it.  I e-mailed Mary Maxim and they advised they didn t have any such thing nor did they offer to create one.  One of these days I may just have to create one myself!

I finally finished (after about 3 years) a crocheted afgan I started for one of the boys and have started another for the second boy.  I find I like to switch back and forth between knitting and crocheting. I ll do a few rows on the afgan then do a tea-towel dish cloth combo then back again.

I want to start a sweater for the dh but those take sooooo long for me to finish.  Between playing on PUT and wanted to knit/crochet something, I barely have time for anything else.  It does help pass the time until camping starts again though.

CJnRaeThe knitter sits in the passenger seat and quietly, most of the time, works on sweaters, baby blankets, socks and other items.

Keeps her busy and me out of trouble on the long drives.

Her latest knitting adventure was making felt slippers.

CJnRaeWell let s see, 1st wife used to love to knit afgans, but only until they got too big for her knitting bag then they went into the closet. I found 14 unfinished ones after she left. Ad the worst part there wasn t enough of a dye lot to finish any of them with out looking like a piece job.
Second DW loves to cross stitch, every shirt I own has something on the pocket, sailboat, camper, race car, Eyeore, you name it. And my dinning room wall is covered with framed cross stiched.
As for me my mother taught me how to crochet at age 10 and my aunt taught me to knit. I used to have to lie and tell the teacher those beautiful crocheted hankerchiefs I gave as presents were done by my mother. In those days you didn t dare admitt you did " girl"  stuff. Unfortunately now my arthiritis makes both impossible.

CJnRaeI knit and crochet - I have carpul tunnel syndrome (kidding - but not by much) and am bearing thru it this winter - One year I made 15 throws and 4 baby blankets!!
I took a knitting course with my girlfriend last year as she wanted to learn and I needed to refresh my memory - we had a blast - check your local parks and rec dept to see if they offer such a class - suggest it if they don t - there are alot of talented folks out there willing to give lessons.
I made myself an easy to knit roll neck sweater - I still have to sew the seems together - so I got busy making sweaters for my children. At this point they are sitting and waiting for me to finish them - so I started to crochet my brother an afgan!!!
There are a number of published works out there on how to make easy sweaters and websites I suggest as well. See:www.aboutknitting.com, www.crafterscommunity.net, www.knittersreview.com, www.spindling.com, www.woolworks.org, www.wonderful-things.com, www.freepatterns.com
How s that for some websites eh???  I think I got them off that original post as the knitters and crafters shared their favorite sites!!
Remember that if you do make alot and need to do hand work as to prevent yourself from losing your mind (crochet, knit etc), there are a number of folks out there that could benefit from your handi-work.  I donated some crocheted throws to the " Hole in the Wall Gang"  camp in Florida last year to kids that have chronic illnesses and get the chance to stay there and have a normal camping experience without feeling so different.  The kids get to take home a blanket or stuffed teddy bear (handmade) to keep with them as a reminder of the wonderful time they had at camp.  I felt it was such a great idea - and I really wanted to do something for someone!
There are Domestic abuse shelters for women and children - as well as a ton of other organizations that would LOVE to have hand-made items for their patrons - to remind them of " home"  and that someone out there understands and cares and wants to offer a hug - even if it is in the form of a nice warm blanket!!!

 Happy Knitting Friends!![:D]
