 JaniceMHi Janice!

Welcome to the boards and to camping in a pop-up!  This is a wondeful place to get all kinds of ideas on how to sink all your money into your new purchase![;)] You can get a lot of mods ideas here and whether they come from the owner of a Jayco, Starcraft, Colemen or other make camper, you ll find that most of them will still work for you.

here are a few sites to get you going:

Our very own [link=http://title-3.com/]Tim5055 s site[/link] is a great place to start.  Tim has spent a great deal of time and effort to compile a tremendous amount of useful and enlightening information.

[link=http://www.uslink.net/~ldbort/personalpages.htm]Bort s Pop up links [/link] has links to many popup owners  web pages.  It is a good place to start looking at what other s have done.

Above all, have fun and don t be afraid to take advantage of the wonderful members and administration here at PUT!

 JaniceMhi Janice,
Congrats on your first pop up, and congrats on it being a starscraft, you picked a good company. We have always been very happy with starscraft products, we had two pop ups and now a hybrid.  Both pop ups are still on the road, the oldest a 1975 the family who bought was just starting out, and loved it. our 2000 model was the best, had every thing: slide-out, cass- toliet ,the works, on that unit. We added the bunk-end shelves, they are worth the money, you can store a lot of little stuff and folded clothes, the other thing we did was to add a produce basket (three wire baskets) to store the vegs, and napkins, paper plates, we screwed in a folding paper towel rack to the ceiling over the sink, used clip-on fans for the bunkends. [:)] the units are well balanced so be careful, not to over do the speed limit , it is very easy to do!  enjoy your popup!

JaniceMI made a curtain to hang under the bunk end to hide all of the things we want to store there.  It hangs from the bungee cord fasteners and the pull-out handles at the end by shower curtain hooks.  I made it of heavy plasticized fabric to keep the rain out.
I also divided the extra bunk down the middle by hanging a shortened shower curtain from it.  It makes two bedrooms when we have children staying with us.  A dollar store hanging shoe bag hangs on each side for lightweight storage for each child.  The 11 and 13 year old boys who stay with us have said they would rather curl up then have to give up their seperate bedrooms.

 JaniceMHi JaniceM,

Welcome to Starcraft life. We have used a Starflyer for 9 seasons, and been very pleased with it. We have pulled it thousands of miles and spent over 200 nights in it.

Probably two simple additions have been most useful. One consists of drain pipes that we tie to the frame on the front and back of the trailer. The six-inch one on the front holds the awning/screen room. The four-inch one on the back holds all poles. The second addition is a wire shelf that we hang in front of the smaller bed. It is attached by cords to eyelets that I carefully screwed into the thicker wood at the angle of the roof. I split it into two sections, so as not to have to deal with the roof crutch for the canvas. This is very useful for many small things, e.g., hats, books, rainwear, toilet kit.

Carry rainwear for yourselves for setup and take-down. Also, carry thin plastic painter s sheets to cover your beds if you have to close up in the rain. The design does allow rain to enter from the sides of the bed when unzipped.

We ve only had three repairs/replacements. The right break assembly was replaced for $125 plus labor, and the replacement after 7 seasons of the wench unit which became too stiff to use. The third was the replacement of the foam in the bed that we use, also after 7 years; these go soft over time.

Canvas, screening, everything else has been fine. It helps that we store it inside for the winter.

I touch up the paint on the frame every season.  Frames rust easily on all makes.

Enjoy popup camping. You cannot travel as easily as those with hard-sided rigs, but you won t have the financial investment either. It will give you much pleasure.

I could go on-and-on with ideas, but these have been most useful. Do read this message board extensively for ideas.
