  • My water heater will blow out occasionally, hey that s why it s called roughing it!
  • I need to run the stove for a little while before starting the fridge to clear out the air in the lines.
  • I wasn t having any trouble with my PU being out of level, but what a great discussion!

mikewilleyLooked for the thread but can t find it.  I Have written this up a number of times.

According to Suburban, the solution to the pilot light blowing out is to remove the bottom of the flue box.  Remove the flue from the water heater, bend back (or cut out) the bottom sheet metal but leave the lip. (where it meets the main burner body), and reinstall.  Takes 5 minutes, 4 of which are used getting the screws restarted.

For whatever reason, they say oxygen starvation, the pilot gets suffocated and goes out.  It tends to happen more with breezy conditions, but I have had it happen at all sorts of times.  I suspect the flue may also channel a strong breeze right at the pilot from the backside.

Anyhow, I made the mod, removed my WindGard, and I have not had the pilot light go out since, in wind, in rain, etc..
