[font=" comic sans ms" ]We put at least 4000 miles on our new-to-us PU last summer.   We decided that before we did the same this season we should replace the original tires.

I went out a looked at the tires on the PU and arranged to have them replaced with the same kind of tire (different brand) (4.80-12).  On the day we picked it up I was checking out the new tires and was quite surprised to find a load rating of 780 lbs on the tire.  Hmmmmmmm ~ that would be 1560 lbs for the trailer.  Not good.  The PU weighs about 1600 pounds Empty!  Look up and right there above my head is the little placard that tells what tires should be on the PU (5.30-12) ~ they don?t match.  Call Vanguard and they say ?put on the 5.30-12s.  We don?t know why it came with the other tires.?  Call the shop back and tell them to replace the tires that are on the PU with the ones Vanguard recommends.  Whew!  Feeling much better.

The shop calls a few days later to say that the PU is ready.  Great!  They call back 10 minutes later to say they know why the original tires were not the ones recommended by Vanguard.  Turns out the 5.30-12s rub on the wheel wells!  All right ~ this is not good either?..what to do? What to do?

Remember lots of tire discussions on PUT mention the Duro name.  Go to their website and check out their selection. AHA ~ 4.80-12s 6-ply!  Weight rating of 990 lbs.  Call the shop back and arrange for them to put those tires on.  One week and 3 pairs of tires later we have it right and the PU is back in our driveway ready for another season full of adventure!

So, if you haven?t done it already ~ check out your tires!

And pay attention to the discussions here at PUT even if you don?t think they apply.  Someday that information will come in handy! [:D]

KellyI m glad you got tires that are safe for your trailer, and I am even more happy that you didn t have a problem with the old tires.

[font=" comic sans ms" ]Only one problem actually.  A big ole blowout in Nowheresville CO last year [:@] ... used the spare and then dh drove all over town to find a replacement spare while I entertained the troops at a rest area.  [: (]  Lost about 4 hours there!  [:(]  Thankfully no damage and nobody hurt.  KellyOur pop-up has about 20,000 miles on it s OEM tires, but they look like they re done.  We have plans to replace them (including the spare) before the first trip of the season.

Our problem is finding them.  Most of the trailer shops in town can t (or won t) get Duro tires, the only manufacturer that makes the 8-ply, Load-range D ST tires we need.
