All,

Is it just me or has the cost of camping increased quite a bit this year. I will say on one of my other threads this is a good item to have to help me remember these things. (log book). I do know the states are in the 13-22 dollar range but the others vary so wide. Most of the places have been from 34-39 dollars per night. At my local camp ground, the one I go to when all others fail is running 32 and a 10% discount for regulars.

Has anyone been keeping track, Oh what am I saying, I should know better.
Can someone shed so light on this?????

whitestar505We camp at National and State Parks most of the time.  The PA parks have not had an increase, but the National Parks have increased prices.

whitestar505Most of the state parks here in Ohio have raised rates $1 to $2 a night. Still a great deal at $17 to $18 a night.

whitestar505Some private parks near us have gone up a dollar or two a night, but the State Parks in VT, NH, and Mass are the same this years as last! VT-$15.00, NH- varies, MA- $10.00 or $12.00 depending on residency.

Personally, I wouldn t mind paying a few dollars more, IF the parks got the use of the money! Esecially Mass. State Parks. Most of the Ma. State Parks we ve been to could use some fixing up!

whitestar505I really haven t noticed an increase in camping prices.  I live in the Wisconsin Dells " area"  and most of the campgrounds around here are about the same in cost.

Unfortunately, they re also normally much higher than a lot of other places since this is a touristy area.

I agree that some private campgrounds seem to overcharge and most state parks are a reasonable cost.  You have to pick and choose where you want to go.  My family and I went to a rather expensive campground last summer for a weekend and it was a very NICE place with a lot of amenities and friendly staff.  I don t mind a more expensive place for one trip, but I wouldn t want to pay high costs every time I went camping.

If camping charges ever get to the point of being as expensive as a motel.....well then, I will do most of my camping on my parents  private property.  I will ALWAYS find a place to camp, so I m not too worried[;)][:D]

whitestar505We seem to always end up at state parks or national parks and haven t noticed any price increases.  I will have to say that I understand... but don t like the extra fees and cancellation policies that ReserveAmerica (or is it ReserveUSA) has.

whitestar505The state and national parks we have gone to have all gone up so I would assume that the private parks will all do the same in the next year or two also.

whitestar505I don t really keep track.  This year we have are going to both public and private CGs and it sort of balances itself out over the season.
What really gets me going is all the " extra"  charges at private CGs ~ $1 - $3 more for each kid, couple bucks to run the AC, couple bucks for the mini golf, etc.  With 4 littles ones that adds up FAST! [: (]

whitestar505What I don t like about the ReserveAmerica (APART from the cancellation fees) is that they charge you the whole amount upfront....

I ve already been zapped $170 for a week at Silver River SP (Fla) over Thanksgiving.  With $2 or 3 for electricity per night plus $2 per dog (I have two dogs so that s four bucks extra per night.) it adds up.

I know interest rates are low, but they must have a whole bunch of advance money to play around with....and i doubt whether the parks are getting it.

whitestar505Well, this just seems to be the way things go in general. you probably expect to make more money this year than last. I  spect campground owners do too.
