I have seen pictures from some of our members who have US maps on the side of their PU that they color in as they visit new places.  I would like to do the same for my Santa Fe.  So...

Did you buy this as a decal? If so where?
If you painted it on, what kind of paint did you use and how did you prep the surface?

Do you use any kind of post coat to protect it from road wear?

 THANKS ALL! [:)]

mikewilleyIt comes as a large decal sheet, with the states as individual stickers that you put on as you do whatever there.

On ours, we got the one that has the vanity license plate pictures for the State -  Treasure the Chesapeake  - MD, etc.

You clean the surface, and using the transfer, put the border on the camper.  As you hit the states, you stick them in the area provided.

We ve had it on for several years, no ill affects.  The biggest challenge is finding a place that has enough blank space to put it on - without being on top of decals or under the stove or something.

wynotDo you remember where you found it?

mikewilleyWe got ours at Camping World.  I think it cost around $16.00.

Here s the one that we have if you want to take a look:  http://community.webshots.com/photo/39587888/69748280bRaPik

mikewilleyWe got ours at a local RV dealer.  I don t remember what we paid.

I saw one Hi-Lo that had two maps!  One was completely filled in, and the other was about 1/3 full.  I never got the chance to ask if they were on their second time through, or what the story was.

I have seen different " rules"  for stickering a state.  Some do it whenever the pop-up wheels touch that state.  Others consider a state visited whenever they stop & spend time/money/etc.  For us, we go to the extreme.  If it doesn t get slept in, no sticker.

mikewilleyWe got ours at either Camping World or our dealer s extremely well stocked store.

This has been our policy, but we may have one exception coming up this summer as we return to South Carolina.  Lord knows if I am towing the popup 225 miles in SC, staying there a couple of days (but possibly with friends), and then coming back out, I am going to claim a state we made our home at for a long time before becoming a popperupper.

mikewilleyI don t have a map, but I know my local RV dealer has them.  I think they are around $20.

mikewilleyI found these....it s a newer version where they use the state s license plate decal instead of the normal one tone colors....

mikewilleyJust ordered mine from Camping World. I have a place for it. I also am collecting stickers from all the campgrounds we go to. Have room for that also....[:D]

 mikewilleyAll,

Got mine yesterday.. Now need to find time and no rain weather to put it on. Specking about that, was there any surprises when putting  the map on the trailer?

Trlrboy

mikewilleyWe didn t have any problems putting the map on but you have to be careful and patient when putting on the state outlines.  It s helpful to do it with two people with a couple of sharp exacto knives.

As to road wear, we haven t had any problem except we lost Lake Ontario somewhere.  When we put our states on we made sure the area was very clean and then used a hairdryer to slightly heat the states to make it easy to get air bubbles out and smooth the surface.  We have not coated them at all.  Just be careful of the map area if you run your camper into a self-washing car wash to clean it.  Those pressure wands can lift the states if you hit an edge.

We also only claim a state if we actually camped there.  Not just in this current popup but if we were there in our last popup or in a tent before that.  We think that s fair because if you buy a new camper are you supposed to start over again?  Just driving through a state doesn t seem to count for much to us but looking at the map over a cold brew and talking about the places we ve been over the years makes that colorful map all the better.

mikewilleyOK.. But what about the great lakes?? Can t camp on water.. Are they just there for color?? Or do you need to visit them in some form to apply? I have always wondered about that..

PS, I have mine on my camp kitchen. I also put a piece of " kid proof"  plexi-glass screwed over it to keep little prying fingers from taking them off!! [:D]

PS, just take a peek on my web site to see some photos (although tomorow I add 2 new state and one missed state to it!)

mikewilleyI have seen these on trailers and other PUs and have thought how cool they are, but it won t work for us.  We d only ever have California colored in!  (okay maybe Arizona, Nevada and Utah too, but that still seems hardly worth it.)
