Creepy thing happened.  Yesterday I was sitting at the bus stop, staring at a neighbors Coleman pu, thinking " I never see them use that poor thing"  and wondered if i should go over and ask them about it to see if they might be interested in selling.  Well, this afternoon, I was headed to the bus stop and Lo and Behold.... It s now parked out front of the house with a for sale sign.  " 1990 Coleman. $600 OBO" .  The owners weren t home but their next door neighbors were so I popped on over there and asked what he knew about it.  He told me it s in great shape and as far as he knew, the only fault he could find with it was, in his words "  The guy parked it too close to the fire on one of his trips and it s got that campfire smoke smell" .  (I m thinking.... what the heck is it supposed to smell like? A rose garden?)

I d like to see if anyone here can give me any insight into what could possibly be squeezed into a 7 foot box?  I see a nice propane tank with cover, the spare has a cover and no cracks or dents anywhere but it s not open.  I have seen it open from afar before and the canvas looks to be in good shape.

 Also...

How silly would it be for me to go and buy tis one when we already have a pu... granted ours is a 67 Skamper but it s a good size for our family of 5.  This Coleman is small but would be great to have because I can t take the Skamper out with the kids without the DH along to help pop up.  See, the Skamper has no lift system and the metal roof is VERY heavy and awkward to lift.  I can t do it alone.  At least not if I want my back to be able to support the weight of my upper body the next day.

 What do you think?

 What s inside?

 What s it worth?

What s a reasonable Best Offer to offer?

Should I just forget it s there?  (That s so hard!!! I drive by it several times a day!)

MommaMiaIf there is really nothing or little wrong with it the $900 sounds like a good price but I would probably try to go down a hundred or two.  The " I don t think my husband would want me to spend that much"  way  or something simillar.

Turn Key

MommaMiaI see a quick $800-1000 profit there.  If it s in that good a shape and I could get it easily, I d buy it, clean it up good and do any minor repairs and then sell it at a profit.  I m betting it won t sit there long.

YellowXterra

MommaMiaWe had a Coleman Columbia and it was a great little camper. 2 & 2 teenagers used it all last year even went to Orlando for 8 days in it did fine! I got $1800 for mine when I sold it. It was a 1987.

 MommaMiaCindy,

I wouldn t hesitate to go over and ask him to pop it up so you can take a look.  After you have a chance to see inside and decide IF it could be useful for you and the kids, you ll have a chance to weigh the pros vs. the cons and make a decision.  However, this has all the signs of being " a sign"  that you should buy it.  Best Offer?  offer $450 if you are willing to pay $500 and offer $500 if you are willing to pay $600.00

I would have to say, it won t be worth owning TWO campers, so selling your current one will be part of the PROS AND CONS equation.

Gamecock Camper

MommaMiaAs always, go to www.nadaguides.com to figure out what a reasonable ballpark price might be for that camper.  If it has good canvas, has a working lift system (crank) and has not been abused, then you might steal this camper for a decent price.  I d definetely let them know that you are currently a camper owner and might be interested in something newer and in better condition.

Most 7 ft box campers would at least have a queen sized bunk end on one side, a double on the other bunk end.... a dinette that converts to a bed and a small kitchen galley that includes a two burner stove and a small sink.  It might have an ice box, dorm type plug-in fridge or a 3 way refrigerator.....  I d definetely check it out quickly because it will sell fast if it is in good condition.

 Good luck.

That is exactly why we decided on upgrading so quickly after getting our old one. I wanted to be able to go out alone, and also to be able to handle it if anything happend to DH, even if he just got sick and I had to put it down myself.  I think it s a great price. We re asking $500 for ours and it s a 1971.
