RE: BEAR!!!! Funny and exciting!

Just came in from the back porch.  Flew down there after mom came flying up the stairs hollering " There s a bear under the playscape!!!!"  
 
 It seems she was out in the yard with the flashlight, walking the dog, when she saw a big shadow in an unusual spot near a chair by the playscape.  She froze and almost had herself convinced that it was just a shadow when it MOVED!!!  Then it became obvious to her that it was a bear,  It started walking towards her, swaying it s head back and forth as it lumbered towards the playscape!  
 
  Well, let me tell you, I wish i had a video of mom flying into the garage, stumbling in the darker over her planting supplies, fumbling around (in the dark)for the button to close the open garage door!  No fewer then 5 seconds after she got the door shut, she was up 3 flights of stairs getting us headed to the back to see what she almost pooped in her pants about.  She tells me she whacked her leg on the way up when she fell on the garage steps!
 
 We all get out on the deck but don t see anything.  We can hear something rusting in the woods just past the playscape.  I asked my mother if she was sure it wasn t a raccoon or something.  After all, last time she thought therer was a squirrel out in the back and walked right up to it before she realized (in the nick of time) that it was a skunk!  We  hear more rustling and then one of the DD excitedly whispers " There it is, I see it!!!"   We all look where she is pointing and sure enough, about 10 yards out is an enormous Black Bear!!!!  No way!!! This thing was just sitting right behind a bush on the far side of the playscape in the middle of our backyard, the entire time we were out there looking around, talking, laughing and shining flashlight with the flood lights on.  Definitely not in any big hurry to get away from us!!  We did manage to grab the video camera just in time to see it head into the woods.  Kinda of a Big Foot looking shot of it.  Definitely bigger than I expected.  Bigger than me on all fours!  I put it around 200lbs+
 
 When we finally came back in, after listening to it rustle in the woods for a while, I got a look at mom s leg!  Looks like somebody shoved an egg under the skin on her shin!!!  Oohh!  She said it doesn t hurt but I bet it will be sore tomorrow!
 
 Wonder if the girls will ever again ask to sleep out in the PU again?  I posed that ? to DH and he said HE has reservations about sleeping out there now!!!

That is too wild!  DH would have been flipping out about a bear in the yard.  He is concerned enough about meeting up with one in a cg, let alone in the back yard!

When we were out on the deck watching the bear, mom had mentioned that she was glad she had brought  her birdfeeder into her apartment since spring was here and the birds didn t need to be fed.  When we woke up the next AM, we found the bear had come back and tipped over the metal trashcan out back that hold our stash of birdseed.  We forgot all about the can.He gorged himself.  At least 20 lbs of seed are gone!

 Just kidding, when I lived at home we had bears come through on a regular basis.  They usually were looking for an easy meal, dog food, bird food, etc.  Look for it again in a week to 10 days.
