I thought it would probably be a good idea to check out how the new TV towed before heading out for Charlotte next week. Also wanted to make sure the lights, brakes, etc., were working OK. So I hitched up the camper Wednesday morning and drove it up the mountain. (I live in the mountains, so finding one to drive up is pretty easy! LOL!)

WOW! What a difference! I have a 2002 Coleman Utah and I was towing it with a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. I had my Chrysler dealer put a Class III MoPar hitch on the Jeep a couple of years ago, but didn t get the rest of the towing package. Plus the Cherokee had a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder.

NOW I have a 2003 Dodge Durango with 4.7 liter Magnum V8, and full factory towing package (heavy duty alternator & battery, tranny cooler, heavy duty engine cooler, etc.). I was MUCH more comfortable towing...and I could SEE! The Durango has the extra wide mirrors, and it s tall enough that I can even see some over the top of the camper (the AC unit on top blocks part of the view).

I think I m going to enjoy the next trip to Charlotte a lot more than I did the last one!

BTW, thanks to all who recommended an anti-sway bar on the hitch. I got one of those added before the last trip, and even with the Jeep, I could really tell a difference.

Can t wait till next week...10 days of camping and racing. My kind of vacation! [:D][:D][:D]

Turn Key

labontefanHaven t towed with our new TV yet.  Book says to wait until after first 500 miles.  Should be able to tow by next weekend.  Did back it into position to check the new receiver height.  Same as you, I can see OVER the PU now and have power towing mirrors!  Talk about " being in high cotten" ![:D]

I ve been a Chrysler fan for a long time. My first vehicle (giving away my age here) was a 1969 Plymouth Valiant with a 225 Slant 6 engine! Prior to the Cherokee, I had a Plymouth Voyager, and before that a Plymouth Laser! They quit making Plymouths so I had to move to another Chrysler line. [:D] (Now they ve quit making Jeep Cherokees. I m starting to get a bit of a complex! I seem to be bad luck for car makes! LOL!!)

Race? No thanks...I d rather watch someone else race (which is why I m going to Charlotte)!

 To Turn Key:

My owner s manual said to wait till at least 500 miles to tow also. So last week, I took the Durango on its first " road trip" . I took it over to the Coleman dealer to have the brake controller installed. (My Dodge dealer took it off the Jeep for me.) The dealer is about 60 miles away, and we just made a day of it...lunch at Cracker Barrel, shopping at Sam s Club, etc. It had about 200 miles on it when I bought it, so the road trip plus driving to work every day got it up to 500 pretty quickly.
