 Hi All,

Yesterday was a very slow day so I worked on on the trailer a bit. I deceided to drain the water system. WoW! I was surprise that it held that much water. Of course it has a hot water heater. There had to be at least 3-5 gals of water. Well I got thinking, that is a lot of weight to carry around all the time. I wonder what the club would say if I asked them WHEN DO YOU DRAIN THE WATER OUT OF THE TRAILER? Before you come home, after you come home or NEVER ? If you drain it at the camp grounds do they not state that it is gray water ?  What do you do?

whitestar505The water in your tank isn t grey water since you haven t used it for anything.  We rarely use our holding tank (I hate to pump the water and would rather pour it from a container) but, when we do, we take the cap off on our way out of the park and let the water drain until we stop for lunch.  If there is still water in the tank, we let it drain until our next stop.  The sloshing around while we are driving seems to get rid of all the water in the tank.  You do have to remember to replace the cap when you get home so no critters take up residence.  DH keeps the cap in his pants pocket so he doesn t forget.  And yes, it uses lots more gas not to mention added weight to tow a PU fully loaded with water.
 Hope this helps,
 Susan

whitestar505The last time out, since we were camping where water was an inconvienient distance away, I thought I d go ahead and fill up at home. This was a first (and probably last) for us!

I really could feel the extra weight (20 gals * 8 lbs/gal = 160 lbs). On our bayside, the water tank is located about 12 or so inches behind the axle.

Normally, our pop up has towed quite nicely, very little sway, etc. Our TV is an Acura SLX (aka Isuzu Tooper) tow rated at 5,000 lbs. We don t use a WDH or sway control.

However, with the water on board, it was VERY UNSTABLE! Just as we were going over the Cajon pass (towards Victorville), my speed got a little bit away from me (probably 65 or so), and we really started swaying. After my wife finished yelling at me, and I got things back under control, (including my digestive tract!), I could tell that whole freeway behind me had pretty much come to a complete stop, watching me almost wreck! A group of my fellow Indian Princess familes were following us, and said they thought were were history!

So, needless to say, no more carrying water, or maybe I ll have to invest in the Reese Mini 350!
