Gamecock Camper

Ok, this may belong in the Product Reviews or Bargain forum... but I thought it might get more traffic here in the Campfire section.....

We went up to our lakehouse last weekend and found that the two area rugs were moldy.  The house is built on a concrete slab and we put down vinyl flooring so that the cleanup would be easy.  We suspect that when we turn off the AC or Heat that the concrete floors sweat a little and cause moisture problems.  With all the rain we have had over the last few weeks, I guess that is what made the rugs have mold on them.   I think a good dehumidifier will do the trick.

Does anyone have any recommendations as for a brand or features to look for in a dehumidifier?

Gamecock CamperNot a reply as to a brand but a suggestion that if it is going to be running for long periods of time that you leave it sitting next to the sink so the water hose can drain instead of overflowing.

Gamecock CamperThere are a lot of good brands out there.  My mother uses one in her basement because she is allergic to mold/mildew.  I ve used it in our house also, and I ve got to tell you - they throw out a LOT of heat!  I would not plan on using it if your going to be in the house with it in the summer!  Fall and Spring are OK, but with the summer heat it can be unbearable!  [: (]  They are very effective though, and I highly recommend them!

Gamecock CamperOk, I bought one today.  I did some research and then shopped around a bit.  There are a few brands to stay away from.  Whirlpool (who also makes the Sears Kenmore brand) and GE have had a few problems with overheating and catching on fire.  They were recalled and might have the problem fixed, but I m not going to use my lakehouse as their experiment.  One website said that there have been no fatalities but lots of property damage......  I ended up  getting one from a shop we have here in town called the Air Quality store.  They sell all kinds of filters, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air cleaners, cleaning products, etc.... They really know their products and I feel pretty comfortable that I bought what I will need.  Time will tell when I hook this baby up.
