This park is our favorite place to camp.  The campgrounds are excellent with good separation from each other and plenty of shade.  Each campsite has a paved spot for your camper plus a flat area suitable for a tent, shower teepee or other use.  The picnic tables are in good condition.  The only thing odd is that some sites have the water spigot out by the road which means you will need to have an extra hose to reach your camper.  Our favorite sites are 27-42-45-25.  Those all have room to tie the dog to a screw in stake without her getting wrapped around trees.

There is a swimming area that is good for families with lots of picnic tables tucked under the trees.  This area gets lots of day use during the summer on weekends.

The 18 hole golf course you pass on the way to the campground is terrific but I would say beginners will have a rough time of it due to about 6 holes having very narrow fairways through the trees.  Water comes into play on about  8 holes.

The park store is very good but pricey for bread, milk, ice etc.  There are plenty of places to buy groceries/ice in Arkadelphia about 10 minutes from the park.  The park store has a good selection of t-shirts, sweats and other souvineer items.  They also sell firewood.  Most of the time it s green and not worth burning.  I would check it out (behind the park store) and if it s green there are other places along the road to Hot Springs that sell it.

The marina rents boats and jetskis if you want to fish or go zooming around the lake.  They also sell worms, minnows and fishing supplies.

Hot Springs NP is about a 1/2 hour away and a very entertaining place to spend a day or two.

This seems to be common to Arkansas parks.  Ran into the same thing last year at Petit Jean SP.  Most of the sites had the water on the correct side and close in.  But about 15 percent had it on the " off"  side and/or out near the road.  Only reason I could see for it was that it might have been a bit easier to put it there on those sites.  Have heard others speak of the same thing in other Arkansas parks.  Not a big problem if you know about it.  Just a bit odd.

Thanks for the info.  May end up going in that direction in a year or two.
