QuoteMy only hesitancy in putting it on the Really Rallies board/gathering a big crowd is Cachuma s non-reservation policy. The smaller the group, the better the chance of getting a spot. A camper I met there last NYEve, our own Jacqui, and Cachuma s front office all said that Cachuma is pretty empty during Christmas-New Year week, but that it was unusually crowded this past holiday season due to one or two beach areas flooding out. We only snagged " our spot"  because few seem to know it exists! We had about 6 or 7 last year? A dozen should be safe; perhaps more if it s as empty as people claim it usually is. I ll start a separate Cachuma board soon.

This rally can easily be put on (and IMHO should be) the Rally Board since the campground is HUGE.  No matter how many people signed up for it and participated, they would be accomodated in some way, shape or form.  No, we might not all be together in a line, but we have learned from past rallies that does not matter in the least.  We just choose a gathering place and that s where we all end up.  If the grassy line of hook ups it full, there is always the parking lot hook up section and after that there are hundreds of dry camps at the top where no beach reaches.  This is an excellent opportunity for NNC to join SCC so open up the flood gates (not literally, of course! QuoteHey, I could make individual MEMBER pages for the SCC. And I could probably do it in ONE NIGHT if everyone just sent me a picture of two and a little blurb about themselves.

This is the night.  Are you working your magic?  How s it coming along?

A new thread will magically appear this weekend.  Stay-tuned for details! [:D]

gsm x2Hey, look at me - I can post!  I have been having trouble for months because of Norton Internet Security.  I thought I had tried Scott s helpful hints but it still hadn t worked.  I took a look again and clicked here and there and voila!  I don t have to be a silient member anymore.  Do I always need to be guest though?  I tried to login as CStars and it said I didn t exist even though I did at one point.  Good to be back!

Although, I have to tell you that you aren t listed on the Members List, so make sure you have the approximate date you sent in your $30.00 to join the Arvee Club.

Good luck and hope to see Cstars appearing in a thread soon.

g-whizFor we technically disabled people, maybe Scott could do some of his camera magic in Temecula to take pictures of those of us who can t provide one otherwise.  Just a thought.

Wow, I remember the days when I thought having your picture on the internet was something you didn t want your mother to find out about! [;)]

gsm x2Don t know how to do this BUT for anyone in Orange County that is/are not camping we are hosting a Memorial Day Party in the street.  This is the 3rd of what will become a great tradition.  Please feel  free to attend.  We are in Lake Forest near the intersection of Bake and Toledo.  Feel free to come but call to see what s up.

My pleasure.  By hook or by crook, I did manage to find pictures of most people. So went ahead and put together a lot of UNDER CONSTUCTION pages in the members area of http://www.sccampers.org  Hope to get some write ups as you get a chance.  Have a great weekend.

 Heading for bedding myself.

What s with all the winter coats and rain?  Rain?  HERE???  Scampers, we need a more Southern Californian look, LOL!

The problem is that we ve nevery camped in the Summer, and I didn t take very many pictures of people at the Lake Casitas event---kind of shy taking pictures of people.  Now I think that people are more used to me walking around the campground taking 50 or more pictures a day---and annoying EVERYONE with the nighttime flash pictures.

But when it works out, people do like seeing the pictures in a " laptop slide show"  on Saturday night.

I m sure that we ll get lots of good pictures in Temecula...maybe even get all the OC Campers in one place at one time...but won t count on it.

gsm x2Aaagh!  We re so glad to be back among friends! [:)]

We sneaked off to Soledad Canyon to finally take advantage of the " free weekend"  sales pitch we ve been putting off for over a year.  YUCK![: (]

We really didn t like it, and mostly it was because nobody from here was there!

Actually it seemed like EVERYBODY in L.A. was there.  I ve never seen so many people in one place in my life!   And talk about " different" ..we were just shocked at the caliber of people there.  Usually folks who drive lowered vehicles, are tattooed and pierced from head to toe and blast rap music non-stop just don t go camping a whole lot, at least not in our experience!  I was afraid to run into one of the teenage girls in a dark alley!

The pool was so crowded they had to close it off and let the kids in in shifts.  It was ugly!  There was nothing there to entice us to spend $4000 on a membership and $400 per year in dues!

Then, to add insult to injury, the " free 30-day Thousand Trails membership"  we were supposed to receive just for coming to visit turned out to be good only if we left that park and went straight to another park and never spent a single night away from a TT Park for the whole 30 consecutive days!  [>:]

We were really bummed because we actually wanted to go to Idyllwild as our one and only free visit and figured this way we could see it and another one, too!  Oh, well. [:(]

Really makes me appreciate all you wonderful folks all the more!  Sure wish we could go to the Temecula Mini, but Erik graduates from 6th grade that Friday and since we missed his Kindergarten graduation, he s really looking forward to this one!!! (Yes, REALLY!)

Hope you all had wonderful weekends camping!

J.R. and Sue, since we had to come home a day " early,"  we d love to come visit your street bash tomorrow.  Lake Forest may be a little far for us, though.  When are you going to be partying?  Erik and Alison still remember KoAi from Lake Casitas (we were camped right next door to you, remember?)

Anyway, it s great to be back among friends!

Tracy and DavidTracy, what a racket TT seems to have going.  Just think of all the camping you can do for $4000, plus the extra $400 a year!  AND, you can camp with the SCC and the NNCer s. [:D] Just can t get much better than that.  No wonder TT and the other participants didn t seem all that attractive.... you are already spoiled from camping in such great company! [;)]

gsm x2You re not kidding!  We kept thinking, even if we went to Vail Lake every time, which is on the kinda pricey side, or even Newport Dunes, we could camp way more than we do now for a whole lotta years before we d ever even touch that kind of money!!!

OC Campers

gsm x2Hi guys, missed reading all the posts this weekend.  We were one of the crazies that were camping this weekend.  We started off going to Sycamore Canyon in Point Magu, I called cause I couldn t find my reservation#.  I was told I had a reservaton at pt Magu Thorhill Broom beach.  Which would of been nice because it is right on the beach (so I was told) but there is no water there and only pit toilets and there were 9 of us camping.  Our 20 gallon water tank would of been gone in 1 day.  I was so mad I could of spit cause I know that was not the CG I requested (I have never heard of this particular CG).  So, I tried calling Cachuma and Lake Casitas.  Of course they were full.  Next tried Vail Lake.  What luck they had a cancellation.  We got there and the place was really nice.  Had a small problem at check in (there computers crashed losing all site info) but they cleared it up and got us our site.  We had a really nice weekend.  We are so glad that Lori got us turned onto this CG

The best part about the weekend was we learned to cook with the DO and really loved it.  We made a stroganoff and the peach cobbler.  Eveything turned out really good.  Now my mission is to find a pit to go (cause I spent $36 renting one) and a DO cookbook.

OC CampersGlad you were able to salvage your weekend!  We love VLR and have always been able to get a site, even at the last minute.  That s a good thing for us since we didn t plan our summer weekends well enough in advance to get into the state parks that we like at the beach![>:]

Here s my .02 for the pit-2-go and Do cookbooks:

The pit-2-go is wonderful for the DO.  The DO sits down in the pit-2-go, out of the wind, sort of like Moose s Volcano.  However, I m not so fond of it for a campfire.  I don t think enough air gets to the fire and it makes it hard as heck to start the wood.  Also, not enough heat comes out for my liking.  So Dave bought a Coleman road trip fireplace.  It ll get its maiden voyage at the June mini-rally.  It was a bit of money, but for as often as we go to VLR, it ll pay off in the long run, assuming that it works well.  You can check it out when we re all together in a couple of weeks, if you like. [:D]

As for DO cookbooks, we have a few.  Lovin  Dutch Ovens by Joan Larsen is a small, three-ring binder book that has some very nice recipes in it.  We also have a couple of paperbacks: World championship Dutch Oven Cookbook, by Dick and Pat Michaud and Wallace, Pat, Mike and Juanita Kohler; and let s cook Dutch, by Robert Ririe.  One of our most treasured collection of DO recipes (for obvious reasons) is on a CD we received from a dear couple (whom we camp with whenever possible) at a pre-SCC rally in September 2002.  [:)]

OC CampersGlad you got to camp this weekend Jacqui.  Is the Broom place across from Sycamore Canyon or down across from La Jolla Canyon??  You probably had much better weather at VLR since Saturday and Sunday were cloudy, foggy and cold on the coast.  Finally, today it cleared up. [:D]
