I need some campground guidance.  My dad is coming out in July, so we want to take the PopUp down by my sisters and camp near her.  She is near the intersection of Chapman Ave. and the toll road.

 Featherly Park
O neill Regional Park in Trubuco Canyon
 or ???

She s right near Lake Irvine...$15.00 per night, but the $16.00 per person fishing permit makes it a " no go."

 Anyone have any suggestions?

Flush toilets and NOT a paved RV park are requisites. Water and electric would be nice, but not totally necessary.

I appreciate any help our OC friends can offer.

DO NOT GO TO O" neill Park.  Lots of transient/homeless people.

Featherly (AKA Canyon Rv) is very nice.  We have stayed there for one of  our church campouts.  Nice and clean.  No pavement from what I remeber.  Most sites are grassy and pretty shaded.  Bring your bike.  The Santa ana river trail runs right next to the park.  Only drawback is the Freeway noise.  They did put up sound walls but you can still hear the freeway.   This is a pretty good pick.  Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options in this area.

I wouldn t camp at Irvine Lake.  Randy and I drove by it and it didn t look much more than a dirt parking lot.  Couldn t tell you if it had hookups or not.

gsm x2Thanks for all the ideas.  I ll be calling The Campground Formally Known as Featherly Park in the morning to make our reservations.  Stayed there many many many moons ago.  How many moons?  I was driving an Rambler Station Wagon that had push button transmission.  Loved that car.

I second Scott s " thanks for your help"  on this.  Personally, I love freeway noise.  Is that weird, or what?  If there is freeway noise and/or trains, I sleep like a log.  I bet I even snore!  [8D][;)]  It must be the " city"  girl side of me.  I also love crickets, peepers (that s what my mom calls those little tree frogs) and Cicada s.  So, I must have some country roots as well.

What s that?  You pushed a button instead of turned a key?

G, if you like trains, you should be living here.  (Actually, the sound doesn t even register any more.  Still, glad to have a few houses buffer zone in between us and the tracks!)

Oh, so very glad you asked my SBP friend.

I believe it was a 1961 Rambler station wagon.  Instead of a " stick on the steering column"  or " 4-on the floor" , this had buttons.  One was NEUTRAL/START.  So to start the car, you turned the key 1/8 turn, but pushed the NEUTRAL/START button.  There were REVERSE, 2, AND DRIVE and the dreaded PARK button.  The PARK button was the reason I got the car at a good price.  It belonged to a mechanic who used the car as a " loaner."   Unfortunately for him, his customers would forget to push the PARK button, so the car had a habit of rolling where it didn t belong.

I remember visiting a friend of mine once and his driveway actually crossed a RR track (that s railroad, not rabble rouse).  He raised rabbits for show and while looking at them a train passed by.  I immediately jumped a mile and had a look of horror on my face.  He, on the other hand, had no reaction.  When he saw the look on my face, he asked if I was okay.  I told him the train had scared me almost to death.  It was passed by then and he had not even heard it.  Likewise, I used to live on a lake in Michigan.  My home had a HUGE picture window that looked out onto Long Lake.  Little did I know that we were in the landing pattern for the airport that was a few mile from me.  The first time I saw those landing lights shining in my HUGE picture window, I took cover!!!!  After awhile, I didn t notice, but company sure did.  It really is amazing what we humans can cope with in our everyday lives.

My grandparents had the same car but it was a sedan (pale pink and white) and they had a felt dog with a bobbing head in the back..  When they stopped driving they gave it to my older sister.  The push buttons were a crack up.  I also remember that sitting in the front seat felt like sitting on a living room couch...it was so big.  An excellent drive-in movie vehicle!

Well, you are younger than I, but what I remember is my own parents owning a Nash Rambler.  It was Robin s Egg Blue as I remember it.  They also owned a Chevy Suburban which is still available today.  I mean, I m talking back in 1954 and 55, so Chevy has come a long way, baby! [8D]

gsm x2Scott: Featherly is not bad, the freeway doesn t seem to bother anyone in my family, but you could hooked up the PU and Tow it away and I d probably sleep thru it.
