g-whizGriffy s finally down and I ve got a few minutes to thank all of you for a wonderful weekend.  We left for VLR on Thursday afternoon amidst dreadful drizzle in Foothill Ranch but it continued to clear the closer we got to Temecula.  We thought for sure that Scott and Georgeanne would be there to greet us, but we were the first to arrive!  We set up, went to eat (Rosa s in Old Town Temecula is not fancy but they make great carne asada and homemade salsa!) and when we got back, Scott and Georgeanne had arrived.

Friday dawned overcast but turned out nicer than Thursday and we had a leisurely day of swimming in the kiddie pool with Griffin, then reading and relaxing when Griffy took his nap. Everyone started arriving early Friday evening and with the exception of a botched reservation for SimiRich (who took it in very good stride) that couldn t even be rectified by He-Who-Cannot-Be-Refused, set up went well.  We enjoyed chili jelly and cream cheese appetizers and some wonderful tri-tip, the now-requisite margaritas, and a group campfire and turned in with visions of a shared breakfast dancing in our heads.

Saturday dawned overcast again, but quickly burned away and really warmed up!  The day seemed to revolve around food.  We had a wonderful breakfast complete with our first yummy DO dishes of the day.  Randy, Dave loves biscuits and gravy and just doesn t get to have them that often, so that was a real treat for him.  And Tamara, my mom wanted me to make sure you post that recipe! [:)] We spent the afternoon swimming (Dave, Griffin and I went in both the little and big pools, and they were actually quite nice), copying DO recipes and talking about what DO dish we were going to make for dinner.  It was sad though, to see Scott and Georgeanne s " Pops Up Anywhere"  all popped down and ready to go before we had even eaten dinner.  Dinner was awesome, and everything turned out perfectly EXCEPT for what everyone was too kind to mention.  Moose, I might need private tutoring...   [:)]  The never-ending slideshow that Randy set up on his laptop during dinner was a nice touch too.

This morning didn t mess around with clouds (except for two miles after leaving camp!)--obviously because we were all popping down.  I wish we could have stayed just one more day!  We had a great time, and Griffin couldn t stop babbling about " Stott"  (Scott), " Showge"  (George) and " Sassoo"  (Matthew) until he finally conked out on the drive home.  BTW, Randya nd Kerry, I m sorry again for Griffin beating up the boys.  He may be small but he s most definitely mighty!  My mom had an absolutely tremendous time and couldn t believe how nice everyone was and why you all put up with me.  She truly hopes to see you all again![:D]

Trina, I m glad that Emily had a game that she ll remember for the rest of her life, but we still missed you and everyone else who wasn t there.

As for a new name for OC campers without the word " traitors"  in it, hmmm...I ve got nothing.[;)]

Bummer about Jalama.  [>:][:(][: (]  I hope that you ll be able to work your charm on the phone with a live person Rich!  If not, is there some other beach we could get into in July?

PS Randy--Dave and I finally won that argument with the hitch, but it sure didn t go easy.  We finally figured out that someone, my guess would be a little monkey boy, had been playing with the thingy that you have to push down and put the hitch pin in once the coupler goes down onto the ball, so we reset that and then the pop up coupled the hitch just fine.

That about sums it up.  Can t wait to see everyone s phots, especially since we didn t take any![:)]  Night night for now! [:D]

QuoteRandy and I were talking about having to change our screen name if we move. Anybody have any ideas? We are open to suggestions. Anything with the work traitor won t work   .

This may be difficult because my first thoughts were " SactoCampers" , but that was taken.  Then since you are moving from Orange County to Sacramento County, " SC Campers"  would be a perfect transition, but again a bit confusing.

Hmmm....guess I ll have to think about it some more.  Got some chores to do before I head to work.

BTW--sorry we had to leave early too, but sometimes you gots to do what you gots to do.  Except for a small medical call and hauling dead seals out to sea, Sunday was one slow day.  No sun - no crowds.

 g-whizHello SCCampers:

After reading the post rally reviews, it certainly fills one with glee that you had an excellent event.  Seeing the familiar names, like Lori & Dave, Jaqui & Randy, SimiRich & family, the Mooses, and of course Scott & Georgeanne, I feel like I could have felt just at home at the expansion team s campground.

The Dutch Oven, or D.O. sounds like a hit again.  Our abalone was a hit.  Now, if we combined the two, abalone in a D.O., I m sure it d taste so good we d be up all night " jonsing!"

Scott made an attempt to conference call our NNC rally, but up here in the more primitive NorCal, I didn t have a cell phone signal.  They should send that Verizon guy up there, " can you hear me now partner?"

For the Gold Rush Rally, there is still room left, especially for any last minute SoCal members that can participate.  Nonetheless, I think it appropo we give ourselves a pat on the back for having pulled off simultaneous rallies.  Our wagonmaster Dave lead a toast for you folks during our campfire.  So our thoughts weren t too far away.

Lastly, Scott, thanks for your phone call.  It was the coolest gesture to the NNC members.

LOL!  The boys loved seeing Griffin and Matt - they know they re not getting any little brothers of their own - so they are into enjoying the little ones when they can.  Especially Ryan.  And one thing you can say about Griff - he s honest up front.  When Kerry asked Griffin if he goes to school, he shook his head yes and then informed her, " I Hit."   Hey - at least he gives out warnings!  [:D] LOL!

Kerry suggested adding the words " I HIT"  to Griffin s Halloween Rally T-Shirt. [:D]

ROTFLMHO![:D]  Yes, he is honest.  The funniest part about him warning Kerry that he hits is the look he had on his face when he said it.  It was almost a look of sadness mixed with disgust with himself for doing it but also of resignation that he just can t help it!  [:)]  He had such a great time playing with all the big kids and hugging the one his age.  I will carry the picture of him putting his arm protectively around Sassoo as a car drove by. It was truly a sweet gesture.  I prefer it to the one of him hitting or walking on other children s heads. [:@][;)]

QuoteWow--very impressive Emily. I had some fears that the tournement would be a flop. Very glad to see it was anything but.

While I missed you guys (and all that food!), we had a great tournament.  Emily s team took first place.  Emily pitched yet another no-hitter on Sunday, and got another triple.  She had parents from other teams coming over to watch her (word got out about this great 8 & under division pitcher).  If we had to miss camping, at least it was worth our while!

We are going to Jalama this weekend.  Paul s brother lives about an hour north of there and is going to put our name in at 8:00 AM Thursday.  We should have no problem getting there by roll call on Thursday afternoon.   Wish us luck.  Too bad the group reservations are full until November -- I wanted to look into it for our church campout.  I hope the weather is good for us.  This June gloom is really bad this year!  I m ready for sunny weather!

Randy, thanks for covering our backs (or our buns?) with your heaters, even if we weren t there to enjoy them.[8D]

You are welcome Ray.  I had serious doubts on whether we could hook up, what with you being underwater and in caves half the time. But what s the use of technology if you can t make it work for you?  So whereever you are and whatever you are doing in ten days from now, watch out because some time, some way some one may ring your phone and say, " Can you hear me know?"

Tracy and David

Camping CoxesSounds like you guys all had a fabulous time!  We sure missed being there.  I thought about you all weekend, being SO bummed to have missed it.

But Erik had his graduation from 6th grade on Friday night and believe it or not, he has been looking forward to it for about as long as I can remember, so we didn t dare miss it.  He was the only kid there to show up in a suit!  (I don t think even the high schoolers were wearing suits under their robes!)  He looked so cute, it made it worth missing the mini-rally!

Then as it turned out he got deathly sick, so I m glad we dealt with that at home rather than camping.  I guess it all worked out as it should!

But BOY, we can t wait for the Gold Rush Rally in just 9 short days!

G-Whiz, I ll do my best to document the event so that even though you re not there, maybe you can still sneak our rally in your scrapbook.  I ll be your cub reporter up north.

Thanks Ray for being my cub reporter.  I ve check out your work and as always it s fantastic!  I m a little behind in working on the scrapbook, but eventually it will all come together.  Since I now have my new HP up and running, I am good to go.  Not to mention the great new printer.  Sorry CWB, I had to go with the Epson 1280.  I am doing my bit for keeping the economy rolling along and spreading the wealth.  [:)][;)][:D]

g-whizGreat pictures Georgeanne. It looks like we had fun - Oh - we did have fun.[:)]

SactoCampers

Camping CoxesGreat to see the SCCampers had a good time.

 G-Whiz:

Your work isn t too bad yourself there Ansel.  BTW, I also have a bunch of pictures of the children that can go into the scrapbook.  I bet Ca-girl would be a great contact for some info regarding helping with the crapbook.

For once, I agree with Sacto, the crazies picture is a good touch and should be part of every rally as a group picture.  And it s good to see Scott in pictures.  He never seems to make it in because he s always the photographer.

Thanks for sharing and it s good to see all the familiar faces down there.  Griffsmom, can t wait for you folks to make it up here.  When is the big move?  And you folks are really getting into this DO action.  Way too kewl.

 OK, carry on...
