This will be our first trip camping with the group. It looks like we picked a great one. My wife and kids are really looking forward to it. It appears that there are a bunch of great activities planned; face painting, pumpkin carving, costume contest. etc.

With all these activities is there anyone keeping track of when all these things will take place? The reason I ask it that we don t want to miss a thing. We are not sure what we should bring to participate in these activities. We would like to contribute in someway and not just be a bunch of " good time charlies"  as my grandmother used to say.

My wife is picking her brain for ideas for the potluck without much success (wanna make a good first impression) do you have any ideas before she drives me crazy?

Jeff, we haven t gotten all the times down for the activities.   Most of them will be Saturday afternoon.  The potluck is 6pm.  There will be story-time 7-7:30pm by Cstars.  I think I will try to do the pinata about 1pm.  This way the kids can have a little candy without spoiling lunch or dinner.  I will try between now and the campout to sit down and do a time table.  If you are planning an activity, let me know what time you may want to do it.

What you will want to bring is your costumes for the kids (if you want), pumpkins to carve and tools if you have them.  Something to pass out to our trick or treaters and some little prize things.

Can someone figure out the prizes for me?  I was thinking a prize for the best costume, best carved pumpkin etc.  I was thinking it would be nice if every child got a prize (even if it is small) so that there aren t any hurt feelings.  We just need to let everyone know to bring something.  Anyone willing to handle this one for me?

As far as the potluck is concerned.  anything goes.  Does your wife have a specialty she likes to make?  How about a dessert.  You can  never have enough dessert.  It could also be a crock pot thing or cookie decorating.  You name, it will get eaten.

GuestI just got a flyer from Vail Lake with additional info on the weekend.

They stated that it is ok to do early check-in on Friday 10/17.  You may check in as early as 10am.

The VLR Halloween party starts at dusk.  The haunted hayride tickets are $5.00 per person.  This price also includes the magic shows by " Magic Castle Headliner-Doug Malloy" .  kidz maze, and giant slide and bouncer.  For additonal cost there will be souvenirs, haunted miniture golf maze, food by their " gourmet cooks" , fun games and rides.

There will also be costume contests and scream contests nightly for all ages.

They will also have a decorating contest for your " rig" .  So decorate your camper if you wish.

I will bring a copy of their flyer for everyone to see.

We are planning on being there Thursday night so if there are any problems or concerns let me know.

GuestI just got an email that the T-Shirts have shipped and they are on their way to me.

We are starting to get real excited.

 GuestHollypop here-

As far as prizes go, instead of coordinating something, have everyone bring enough prizes to cover their own children. Then we can pool the prizes and hand them out knowing we have enough in the pool for all the kids.  The " contest"  winners could pick prizes first, then the rest could be handed out by a random number drawing. Does this make sense?  This way, each child gets one prize, and the costume and carving " winners"  get recognized too.  Do we need more coordination than this?

OC Campers

GuestHolly, that sounds fine to me.  What type of prizes do you think?  $2-$3? each?

 Jacqui

 GuestHollypop here-

Yeah, I d say $2-$3 goodies for prizes ought to do it, right? We plan on bringing something suitable for a little preschool girl (perfect opportunity for gift-recycling), then one other generic gift good for a boy or girl.

Dave is putting in an urgent request for anyone with a satellite TV to please bring it. Who knew waaaay back when we signed up for this rally that the Cubbies would be in the running for the series. ** This request will obviously not apply if they don t make it thru this week! But if they do I have resigned myself to the fact that DH may be spending the better part of Fri evening/Saturday in the VLR wine tasting bar watching the Cubbies.

Which reminds me: if anyone wants to babysit during the Cubbies game so I can watch it too I ll make it worth the time!

 You gotta believe!

GuestBy the way our kids are both girls, 8 and 5 and reeeaaaaally easy to babysit! If there s time I ll make a run to Thornton Vineyards to stock up on some of their delightful, delovely, delicious Cuvee Rouge- red champagne.  I ll say it s for the holidays but it probably wouldn t last that long... Who s up for wine tasting?!

OC Campers

GuestHolly, I am sure your kids could hang around our campsite while you watch the game.  I will have 2-12 year old girls with me that I am sure could play with them while you enjoyed the game.

 Jacqui

P.S. I am not much into wine but my husband would be all appreciative

 GuestHi All,
I have confirmed with Jaqaui that we are canceling camping, as some @##$%%
lady ran a red light, hit my TV at about 45mph and well....it s pretty much totalled.

I don t see us getting this resolved by the weekend.

WE ARE coming up Saturday for the Day/evening since it only takes about an hour to get there.

Randy- I still want our shirts we ordered and I will bring glow sticks as I m sure we ll be there after dark.

I believe I m to bring a Boy prize & a girl prize? & Pasta salad for the potluck

do we have any times planned for activities??? if all goes as planned I figured us to be there between 10 -11 am

I m going to miss camping and my campfire[:(][:(][:(].
 see ya all Sat.

Dee4jDee- That is a BUMMER!  What a pain! Hope nobody got knocked around too bad and that the insurance advenure goes smoothly. We ll be glad to see you on Saturday.

OC Campers

 Dee4jHi all,

Check in procedures.  All you need to do is go in the office and tell them you are with the SC Camper group.  No need to tell them how many in your group.  Just let them know what site you are in and they will give you a window tag for the car.  I will handle all payment when I get there.

I will be arriving Thursday evening so if there are any problems just let me know.

 Jacqui

P.S.  I made an itinerary for the activities.  I put down times but they may fluctuate with what is going on at the CG

 9 am        morning breakfast
11am       Face painting by Kerry (Flinders family)
 1pm         pinata (OC Campers)
 2pm         pumpkin carving (Griffsmom)
3pm         scavenger hunt  (Steve O Bud, are you still heading this one?)
4pm         costume contest (SC Campers group)
 6pm         potluck dinner
 7pm         bobbing for apples
7:30pm    story telling by Joan (CStars)

I also don t know what time to do trick or treating.  Do we want to do it right after dinner or should we do it before dinner.  Let me know your thoughts.

I am also unsure what time the CG activities are planned for.  For some reason, I am thinking the hay ride is at dusk but I will have to check on that when we get to the campground.  They also have a magic show that the kids will probably want to see too.

Also, a reminder to bring something for the children s prizes.  A $2-$3 limit each should be fine.  (If you have 3 kids, please bring 3 prizes)  We will put all the prizes together and let the kids choose.   I just want to be sure that each child gets a prize.  The prizes will be given out after the costume contest.  Anyone interested in being a costume judge?

Chez Way

 Dee4jDierdre,
Sorry to hear about your vehicle.  How scary--45 mph, yikes.  I hope everyone is okay.  Glad to hear that you will still make a day trip.  I m sure Jim will let you stoke our fire if you want.

I m going to be in New England this weekend for the fall foliage, girls  weekend, but Darksider and I will be thinking about all of you trick r  treat rallyers.   We ll be spending a day in Boston doing the tourist thing and then heading out to the Cape for the weekend.  Should be nice and chilly too!

Jim will be bringing a prize for a younger boy or girl and 3 other prizes for older kids to adults.  He is also bringing the fixings for DO cherry cobbler and sweet rolls and mini donuts for the breakfast pot luck.  He is set with some pumpkin and skeleton tacky lights...I guess he needs to bring a pumpkin for carving.

As far as the trick r  treating schedule, I think right after the costume contest because they will be dressed up already...although getting candy right before dinner might be a problem.  I m hoping that my kids don t destroy their costumes before Halloween...I can dream, can t I?

Dee4j

Dee4jYeah ...I have a new TV!![:D] unfortunately its not ready to tow. Don t you have to break it in first ?? 500 miles?? the way I have to run around town that ll take only 2 days.  I also will have candy for Trick or Treating.
see you all Sat. I wish we were camping [:(][:(][:(][:(]
