Last year I camped at Manatee Springs State Park in Feb. with FPUC and liked it so much that I returned in August for 4 days.

I also camped at Wekiwa Springs SP with FPUC.

Of these three, I preferred Manatee - I liked the boardwalk and the short hiking trails (deer everywhere),  etc. but most of all I liked the fact that one can walk across the parking lot for a dip in the spring.

I d like some comments on Rainbow Springs and Lithia and any other ones.  Since I live in Miami, the drives are in the 4-6+ hour range so I need several days to make it worthwhile.

Are there any others where the spring is a short walking distance from the sites?

sandykayakWe are from Michigan and were shocked last Christmas while visiting the Keys.  We stopped by the Bahia Honda State Park and asked if they had room.  The guy laughed and said we needed to make reservations 11 months in advance.  WOW!

Needless to say, we thought that park was amazing, so we booked a site there for next Christmas.  11 months in advance to the day and there was only one site left.

 sandykayaksanykayak,

We stayed at Ginnie Springs last Aug.  We had a great time there, so great that we are going for a week this summber in Aug.  We stayed at site #8 and the walk was not bad at all.

sandykayakGinnie Springs is really nice.  Private park, not state.  They do have a no-pet policy. Boo hoo.....

sandykayakSandy, Juniper Springs, in the Ocala National Forest is worth the trip. It would also be a little closer than Manatee. Just straight up I-95 to the Ormond Beach exit, then West on SR40  http://floridatraveler.com/travel_articles/juniper-springs.htm

sandykayakyes, Sue...I ve been to Ginnie Springs and it s gorgeous but they don t allow dogs and my pooches account for the major justification for buying a popup.

I m dying to check out Rainbow Springs but it s about a 6-hour drive for me.  Wekiwa is the closest and that s about 5 hours.

I was at Juniper years and years ago - though I see they do allow dogs.
