Well, we finally purchased a new pop up.  A new  02 Jayco 10UD.  Came with the following options - spare tire, vinyl covers, privacy curtains, awning, extra table inside, and a 3way fridge.  All in all a nice package.  We pick it up in about a week and a half, so we are anxious to use it.  ]

Great forum, enjoying my trial membership and will certainly join.

 SHenniginWelcome Shawn!
Have fun with your new PU!  Jayco makes a great product.  Most likely, our next move in 5 - 7 years will be to a Kiwi (Jayco) Hybrid.
My only advice for you (so as not to over-whelm you) is; " Don t forget your stabilizer s" !  Unfortunately, this advice comes from experience, lol.
Btw, did you get a water heater?  In a Coleman for example, a fridge and water heater are packaged together.

SHennigin

SHenniginNo Jeff, we did not get the water heater.  I think we got a fairly good deal, but being an  02 we had a limited selection to choose from.  The only option I wished that it had was trailer brakes.  May not be that big of a deal though.  I can add them should I need to.  It didn t seem that any of the 10 foot PU s on the lot contained brakes.  Oh well, will try to remember the stabilizers though.

SHenniginHiya Shawn! Ok, by the numbers:

 First-  WELCOME to PUT!!!

Second- congrats on the new pop-up!

Third- what state are you located in?

Forth- what s your tow vehicle?

Fifth- are we a nosey bunch, or what? [;)]

Seriously, a very sincere Welcome to you and yours. Sit down, take a load off, and join us at the campfire. (Pulls up an extra folding chair, pops the top off a cold one and hands it to Shawn.)

SHennigin

SHenniginThanks for the welcome.  We are from Ohio and are currently planning on towing with a  01 Dakota CC with the towing package.

SHenniginDave drinks good beer, so I ll sit and chat awhile myself.

 Shawn -
For us (or I should say DW), the water heater was a must, but as long as you re happy then that s all that matters.  I bet you did get a very nice deal on an  02 and that s great you were able to find one to barter on.  Our dealer was out of  02 s long ago.
As far as brakes go, it sounds like you can handle the job yourself if you decide to add them.
If you need the dealer to install them, I suggest getting them now while they still have the PU in their possesion even though you haven t towed it yet.  It would probably be cheaper now rather than later after you have taken the PU off the lot.  You might even try the old " my wife won t let me drive out of here without brakes on the PU" .  They might give you an even better price on the brakes if they think the deal might fall apart.  Not that I would ever try something sneaky like that, lol.  No, no, not me.
Have fun with mod s. (modification s) and get out your wallet for all the stuff you are going to realize that you " MUST"  have for the PU, ha.
 Now here is " THE everything you ever wanted to know about a PU"  site;

 SHenniginShawn,

Welcome to the board!  Glad you found a good deal on the pop up you wanted.

In the upper right hand corner of the screen is a link called " My Profile"

Click on that and it will give you the option to add information to keep nosey people like Dave at bay.  The two thinkgs most people fill out are the city/state and the " signature"  which shows up at the bottom of each post you make.

Ohio is just a hop skip and jump away so maybe we will meet at a campground sometime.  You could always sign up for the [link=http://www.popuptimes.com/members/tm.asp?m=8472&p=1&tmode=1]2003 Eastern Pop Up Rally[/link]

SHenniginCongratulations on the new camper.  I hope you have a great time camping.

Gamecock Camper

SHenniginCongrads on your new camper and welcome to PUT / Arvee.  Our first pop-up camper was a 1999 Jayco Quest 10ft box.  We really really enjoyed it and can tell you that there is plenty of good storage room and that they pull very well without sway as long as you pack it so that the weight is evenly distributed.  We didn t have the 3-way refrigerator or water heater in that camper, but we camped plenty comfortably in the Jayco.  We enjoyed camping so much that we decided to upgrade to a larger camper with a slide-out, 3-way refrigerator, shower/cassette potty... etc...., but we still tend to use the camp facilities for showers anyway.   You ll enjoy the Jayco.  A couple of hints (if you are new to camping or camping in a pop-up camper)...... Campout in your driveway first and use a notepad to list all the things you will need (everybody s " needs"  are different) and imagine cooking, cleaning,  showers... and all the things you will do when camping.  That will give you a good start.    Don t forget to bring the notepad with you when you go to a campground the first time with your new camper.  You will be sure to add items to your list for the next trip.    Most of all, enjoy the camper with your family. There are so many nice campgrounds out there.
