While camping in our 1990 Coleman Williamsburg last weekend I noticed that the canvas in coming away from the roof in the corners and providing an express lane for everything with wings!

The majority of the canvas is secured to the roof via a metal channel. However, the last 6-8"  or so is secured with Velcro. The piece of Velcro that is supposed to be affixed to the roof has come unstuck. It appears the previous owner tried to " re-stick"  it with some type of rubber cement without any luck.

Any suggestions as to what type of adhesive to use to re-glue the Velcro to the camper top would be greatly appreciated.

 jstubbertJeff,
I think just about everything from bubble gum to GOOP! has been tried with various results. I would reccomend going and buying some new industrial strength Velcro, and just using the half you need. I know, I know, I hate to have to use only half of something,[:@] but the stuff will stick to just about anything including concrete block![8D]

I would agree with this except to add one thing...get the surface you are sticking it to absolutely clean.  By that I mean no trace of old adhesives, no dust, no grease, no soap residue, or anything else on that surface.  Very lightly sanding it with very fine (220 or finer) sandpaper might help as well.  Just remember to rinse off the sanding dust before trying to stick the velcro to it.

 jstubbertJust my experience...

Make sure you really get " industrial"  strength velcro.  I got stuff from Wal-mart that SAID it was industrial strength but it was NOT!  I would think you are better off getting something from a hardware store.  If it seems cheap, it probably is.

jstubbertOn one of the boards, someone was talking about Philobond (?) sold by Ace Hardware. They said to buy Velcro at a sewing store (not glued), sand the area, clean area, apply Philobond on area, and velcro, then let it dry. After a day, reapply, and glue together. Sounds like it may work!
