i was just on another pu site and someone said that " Blue Rhino"  will only fill there tanks. I just went to Lowes and exchange my old tank for the BR. I thought they all were suppose to have the same valve that we needed as of April 2, 2002. Does anyone know abut this. I will be so p-----, if I got the wrong thing.

 FoxyladiesRoseann,

Have no fear.  When you exchange your propane cylinder at Lowes, you will receive the new valve type in return.  As cylinders are turned in without the new OPD valve, these valves are removed and the new type is installed.  Then the tank is checked, painted, refilled and placed in the filled bins for purchase by customers at Lowes.

This is the only way an exchange propane tank can be sent back to the general public.

Should you need the old style " left hand thread" , it is still available along with the newer type coarse " right handed thread" .

 Sooooo -----  ya did good![:D]

FoxyladiesBlue Rhino is a brand, not a type of LP tank.

I ve also heard that Blue Rhino exchange stations will only accept their brand, don t know if it s true...It appear s in your case they accepted a different brand in exchange for a Blue Rhino...

I ve also been told that Lowes, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart will accept any tank, OPD valve or not, in exchange...

I m assuming your old tank had an OPD valve...

 Skol...

FoxyladiesBlue Rhino made an attempt to force consumers to use only their tanks by using a special valve, it is a OPD valve but on the side of the valve there is a triangle shape, if you tank has this it can only be filled by a Blue Rhino facility. Not all tanks that have the Blue Rhino Label have this valve. Just some of them. As a result some other tank swapping companies cannot fill the BR valve and therefore will not take BR tanks on swap. Blue Rhino will take anybody s tanks. I think they have stopped making the tanks with the special valve, but they are still in circulation. If you happen to get one...use it up....take it back to Blue Rhino get a new one with out the special valve and you are home free[:D] The only other choice is to buy a new tank and have it filled and keep it yourself...which is what I did[8D]
