As kind of a variation on Tim5055s detachable power cord mod, I m thinking about  disconnecting the 30 amp cord from the converter and replacing it with a short cord going just through the mousehole. Then I will carry a smaller guage extension cord to run from the campground power supply to the pop-up. I dont have a/c or any other large electrical use and mostly dry camp.  Doing this will free up the space where the factory cord is stored and also get rid of the weight. Anybody see a problem with this? Am I missing anything?

cpineI see two issues; from the way you worded your description I think you are aware of one of them.

  • Using a lighter guage wire will reduce the amps you can use.  I think you have thought about this in your description of no " a/c or any other large electrical use" .  High amperage devices can sneak up on you, just be sure you don t use any.  Heaters, microwave ovens, toaster ovens, hair dryers are but a few items in this catagory
  • Pulling the lighter wire out the mousehole and then attaching another cord will leave the connection out in the elements, i.e. not waterproof.  Think about this one.

I would also consider being ready to replace the cord when you sell.  Keep good notes and a few pictures of what you did so you can reverse it.

     Good luck
