 AustinBostonAustin,

 First, belated Happy Anniversary!

Secondly, I feel your pain!  Our 20 yo son is at Penn College in Williamsport.  While only a three-hour drive for us, it still is a hike to go up, schlep all his crap from the third floor apartment he has in an old Victorian, and drive back home in one day.  It has never been cool and dry on the day we do this in the two years we have been moving him in and out of that apartment.  It is a hot, sweaty, irritating, and tiring adventure for us and to top it all off, the only day we could move him out this year was . . . Mother s Day!!!  [&:] It was kind of fitting, actually.  Keeps that whole motherhood thing green. [;)]

We have requested and always hope he s packed up and ready to go upon our arrival.  It hasn t happened yet but hope is so hard to abandon.  Maybe next year . . .

As for the grades, well there s hope there too.  [:D]

Enjoy the summer, Austin.  Fall will be here soon enough and we get to do it all again!!!!

 Chris

 AustinBostonAustin,
Here s how we do it...when DD announced that I was to DRIVE her from home in Chicago to NYU with the jeep packed full, I told her there was no way in heck that I was going to be caught driving in lower Manhattan.  Her only option was to pack and ship -- and she got 6 boxes.

Freshman year we shipped the boxes a few days in advance (UPS) and got on a plane, claimed them at her dorm, and hauled the stuff up the elevator.  That summer she came home so repacked the boxes and all the stuff came home.

Sophomore year she shipped only 4 boxes (!) and stayed in NY the whole year.

This year she s storing her winter stuff in the sorority s holding area and thinks she can get away with leaving some of her things with her sisters who are staying all summer, for the 8 weeks she comes home.  Unless she finds storage space, I imagine a few boxes will make their way home and back again on Sept. 1.

The shipping charges were no more than $90 for the 6 boxes.  We tried to save some $ and shipped via postal service in September 2001 and although it took soooo long for her boxes to make it, they got to her on Sept. 10.  She likely wouldn t have seen the stuff after 9/11.

Good luck with the rest of the academic career!

All I know is the first 3 week experiment cost me over 1K and then another 2.5K for this last semester.
and Next year,  well that s another story here in NC with the state being broke.. Tuition is on the rise again..
